Last week I (Kelly) briefly discussed the fact that I was divorced back in June. I am grateful for all of the encouragement from Morning Rush irregulars. Like I said on the air, my close family had known about this issue for months. And it's not like the rest of you aren't family, but you're like the cousins. Once it was over you needed to know so you wouldn't feel awkward when you ask how my wife is, and I have to inform you I don't have one of those anymore.
Some people have criticized me as a bad Christian for getting a divorce. I understand their sentiment. I am an outspoken worshiper of Jesus Christ. In the gospel of Matthew, Jesus comments on marriage "So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” We failed that test. But God knows we are weak. He knows we will fail thousands of times in our lives. But He is eager to forgive through the sacrifice of Jesus! Which is why He said in Isaiah; “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow".
Some people have said it was in bad taste to air my dirty laundry. I appreciate their point. However I would argue that I'm not airing dirty laundry. I haven't said anything disparaging about my former wife, nor have I said anything that would give insight as to what went wrong in our marriage. I stated a fact that I'm divorced. A large part of our show material comes from the happenings in Jonathon and my everyday lives. For the first seven years that I was on this show we certainly talked a ton about Kari and her amazing insights into human nature and her hysterical nicknames for me and other people. The last year or so it has been hard to not talk about some of the humor I have experienced with things like marriage counseling and divorce lawyers.
Now I'll begin a new chapter of my life. As I navigate through unfamiliar territory, I will be looking for the funny stuff to share with you. Life is messy. People get hurt. But hopefully on this show we can find a way to find the humorous side to most of these issues. Our goal every morning is to put you in a good mood, even when you're grumpy and groggy and fighting traffic. God bless you and thanks again for being a part of my extended family.
P.S. Taylor Swift is not my new girlfriend. ;)
