Congratulations to Brantley Gilbert and Jana Kramer! After dating for about a year they singers are now engaged!

Yesterday's proposal, which happened on Brantley's 28th birthday, took place at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium. Brantley surprised Jana by renting out the facility for the day.

“We could not be happier!” the couple tell PEOPLE exclusively in a statement from their rep. “We are so excited to share this special time with our loved ones and cannot wait to start the rest of our lives together.”

The Georgia native asked Jana’s family for their blessing before asking for her hand in marriage.

“I was so surprised!” says Kramer. “He asked my mom for permission before he proposed, which meant a lot to me.”
