Last night millions gathered to watch the Golden Globes. There was a Hoarding Buried Alive marathon on so I missed the awards, but a lot of the talk this morning seems to be about Jodie Foster's speech. She won the Lifetime achievement award. Maybe she was upset that she's only 50 and getting an award normally given to people who are at the wrap party for this production called life. But whatever the deal was she seemed a bit odd. Not like she was under the influence of anything. She was perfectly in control of herself, she just...was odd.
"I'm just going to put it out there, loud and proud ... I am, uh, single. I hope you're not disappointed that there won't be a big coming-out speech tonight. I already did my coming-out about a thousand years ago." So she's coming out, but she's not. Then she mocked those who did make coming out announcement's. "Now I'm told celebrities are expected to honor the details of their private lives with a press conference, a fragrance, and a prime time reality show". Has that really happened? How did I miss someone having a press conference announcing "I'm gay! And I attract the hottest gay's with my new scent which will be available at Macy's beginning next week. And you can watch me and my scent in action on my new show 'My Big Gay Life' starting this Fall on Bravo".
Jodie goes on to chastise those who seek out fame via reality shows. "If you had been a public figure since you were a toddler. If you had to fight for a life that felt real and normal and honest against all odds. Then maybe you too would value privacy above all else. Privacy!" If they had been a public figure from the time they were toddler's they'd be rich too and wouldn't be ho'ing themselves out to get paid. Acting like you're better than others because you don't seek publicity when you already have more than most, would be like Bill Gates acting like he's better than the rest of us because he spends more time with his family than others. "If you had to struggle to find someone who loved you for you and not your billions. Then maybe you would love your spouse and kids more than your job. You'd value your family more than your career. Family"! Guess what? If you had to work at a soul sucking job whose pay sucked just as hard. Then maybe you would value a job like being a celebrity. A job where people throw money at you just because you are you! Throw money!
