Women giving birth.
I have to weigh in on this and you won't answer my calls!!!  I agree on some parts and not on other parts.  My first child was very painful and so was my second and thrid child.  What some woman are failing to inform you on is the issue of ripping.  It is not comparible to a paper cut!!  Just imagine you skin just ripping down there.  Doesn't sound very pleasant does it?  On the case of going back to work, find me a daycare that will take an infant under the age of 6 weeks?! You say that we are milking it but I disagree.  When you get stitches down there it is uncomfortable to walk, get up and move and to do many other things.  I think you guys are looking for a reason to claim it is not as bad as it seems.  The basketball coach is just a freak of nature. The only thing I agree with is that is does get a little easier each time.  My second wasnt as bad as my first however my third was the worst but that was a special circumstance.

MIss Chapin Issue
I just wanted to comment on the Miss CHapin issue . I tried to call in this morning but the line was busy. I am a young mother myself I had both my boys before I was 18. I  think it is WRONG that they are saying this girl should not be able to be Miss Chapin because she has a child. I know how it is to be on the receiving end of the teen mother thing. but i also know how the PAGENT MOMS can be and believe full that even if she didnt have a child they would have found some other way to knock her down. She didnt not do anything that many other teens are not doing these days other than the fact she was adult enough to take responsablity for her child. atleast she didnt leave it laying in a bathroom somewhere. people need to relize we are no longer living in the 1950s teens are getting pregnant everyday. and not that i agree with it in many ways i wish i had waited but it happens and it happens often. and she shouldnt be treated any different just because she has chosen to take adult responsablity and take care of her child. I STRONGLY THINK THE PAGENT MOMS IN CHAPIN NEED SOMETHING BETTER TO DO WITH THEIR TIME THAN DOWN GRADE A TEEN FOR WINNING A PAGENT!!!!!

HELP

I wanted to tell you a story of something i think sucks for the middle class . I listen to your show every morning and its great . I put my name in for the Christmas help . I was told 3 yrs ago i had pseudotumor cerebri and had to have a shunt put in . I was out of work for 4 months and in the hospital for 3 weeks . After 4 surgery's and 300,000.00 the doctors had me fixed . I have always worked 2 jobs since i was 16 and paid taxes . Well needless to say it was rough with no income and me being the leader of my family . My wife got a second job to try to help with the bills . With 2 boys it was rough and doctor bills piling up . So i put my pride in my pocket and went to try to get help before we went under . My wife went to social services and we tried to get food stamps . We was told we missed it by 25 cent funny i had just got a 25 cent raise before i got sick . The women basically told us with my wife working 2 jobs and me getting a disability check of 400. 00 a month we made to much money . She said that if my wife would stop working we could receive help . Also if we did not have her 2006 camery . I told her so if we just gave up and was bums we could get help she said yes . I also told her our camery was parked out side between a Lincoln navigator and a Cadillac escalade tricked out and they are getting help both of them cars cost triple what a camery cost . Well needle's to say i have gotten sick again this year and have been in the hospital and have had a shunt and valve put in at the cost of 450,000.00 . I just got back to work this month and things are very tight me and my wife are not sure what we are going to do this year for Christmas . i have 2 boys 6 and 13 . We have hit a rough patch and could use your help . We are just the average middle class folks that want give up and quit working for what we have . Thank you for your time reading this .

Darius Rucker?
I listen to you EVERY morning and laugh my *@@ off over those specialized songs or commercials you have.  I LOVE YOUR SHOW!  My question is...since WCOS97.5 gives away tickets to concerts, what are the chances of Darius Rucker tickets at the SC State Fair.  I have decent tickets now but would LOVE to be closer and especially if you include a personal meeting with him.  I would definitely LOVE to win that opportunity. Sooooo, will you be able to offer that to your faithful listeners.........like ME?

Fund Raiser for Cancer Patient with No Insurance
Good morning Jonthan, I have been a loyal listener of your show ever since I moved to Columbia 15 years ago.  I listened to you on WNOK and then switched to WCOS when you moved.  I have never called in or asked for anything but today I feel that I need your help.  One of my very close friends, Greg Couture was just diagnosised with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer.  He is only 52 and he has no hospitalization insurance.  He was self-employed with a small landscaping company, Mother Nature's Irrigation and Landscaping, which was made up of himself and one more individual.  He got married for the 1st time last June to one of my best friends and she has three children.  Everyone is devasted.  He has never been sick and got physicials every year.  Greg is an active member of Corpus Christie Catholic Church in Lexington and a 4th Degree with the Knights of Columbus.

Lisa Walker Couture, his wife, is a realtor with ERA Wilder Realty and now that Greg has become so sick her time is devoted to him.  With both being self employed there are no funds coming into the home and as you know any funds they had saved are now gone.

I am a realtor with ERA Wilder Realty and we will be holding a fund raiser for the family on September 25, 2010 at Kingston Harbour in Lexington.  This fund raiser is a live auction.  We will be taking donations at the door, will have live music, food and drinks and auctioning off items.  All funds will go to the Greg Couture Family.  If you would like to donate any item or items for the auction or make a donation you can call me at 803-348-2408 or email me at ecauleyjr@sc.rr.com.  I will pick up any auction items or they can be dropped off at any ERA Wilder Realty office just make sure to say they are for the Greg Couture Family auction.

It would also help if you would ask your loyal listeners to help if they can.

Thank you for your time and if you have any questions you can contact me at the above number.

bypassed for bypass
because we upgraded our state insurance plan and are now paying the higher premuim, (supposedly getting the better coverage) my husband does not qualify to be part of the trial - if we had kept the lower / lesser insurance - he would have qualified.  I think it is ridilicoius that they are not looking at health / medical history to determine who can have the surgery.

Gastric Bypass Will be Covered for State Workers
You had an interesting discussion this morning on the news about the gastric bypass trial for state workers. Just to put this in prospective, the Spartanburg Herald online says that "Medicaid and Medicare also cover it". Why the big uproar over workers having this included in their insurance while no one is complaining that people who are not working can get it at state expense?

CBS TV SHOW

Initially I was going to say that William Shatner should have called it quits after Star Trek.  He gives true comedians a bad name, but that is not even my biggest beef now.  I was OFFENDED and actually SHOCKED to hear Jonathan say that parents are "OVERREACTING" to the possible title of the new CBS TV show starring William Shatner.  I do not think that parents are reacting enough..... that is what is causing the downfall of our society today.  If we as parents don't stand up and make our voice heard, these networks will continue to think that it is okay for them to air whatever they want to not considering who may be listening.  It is all about the money for them.  It seems that they have thrown any morals out the window.

I personally am appauled to hear YOU make a comment like this on air.  You usually talk about values and how our society is taking a nose dive straight to hell.  The reason is because more parents and individuals are not standing up and saying "ENOUGH".  We have stood back and let Athiests cause laws to be changed and do away with prayer in schools and they try to make the name "GOD" taboo...... all because they got on a bandwagon and yelled and griped that they were OFFENDED by these things!  People have banned BUGS BUNNY and Wyle E. Coyte cartoons because they "promote violence" and say they are not good for our children but air cartoons that are not fit for adults to watch, much less our children.

Well, I AM OFFENDED!!  I am offended that anytime anyone says something to try to defend their Christian morals and beliefs, they are accused of OVER REACTING!  Shame on you and shame on anyone else that thinks that.

While I agree that parents should censor what their children watch, and that this show will be (or I should hope) aired after most children should be in bed, you know that the advertising of this show will be done during prime time for all eyes to see and EARS to HEAR.

You say that parents are "over reacting"...... well let them "over react, if that is the case.  At least we are beginning to react.

It's about time!!!!!!!!!

JR:

Well said...I think that I should have rephrased my "over reacting" comment.  I only offered that because I don't beleive that CBS was EVER really considering the title to inlcude the word.  They paid a hefty fine after the Janet Jackson SuperBowl show.  I think that sometimes parenting groups, church leaders and the like "play into" the hands of such producers of smut.  Howard Stern is on record saying that in order for his radio show to be successful, he needs a church organization or the like to make a huge protest over the initial broadcast.  The extra press, along with the "taboo" effect help launch his broadcast in markets where he hoped to encroach with an immediate impact in the ratings.  Absent that reation, and hopefully a "over reacton", his show does not generate the ratings he needs to retain the affiliation.

I am glad you emailed, it reminds me that it is not the quantity but the quality of the words I use.  I also want to thank you for taking the time to email me, too many times people hear something, and simply keep it to themselves.  I can't learn to be better in my communication if we don't communicate.

Camo wedding
I just joined the website, but I listen to the show every morning on the way to work. I heard the bit about the camo weddings the other morning. I had a camo wedding last september (my husbands idea). I was scared of the idea at first, but I wanted him to have his opinion put into the wedding too. He had been married once already and hated the ceremony. He picked out the groomsmen ensembles. Even the preacher matched them. The guys wore button up camo shooting shirts with brown carhardtt pants. the bridesmaids wore strapless brown dresses with green sashes. We were married outside with ferns everywhere. The guests sat on rectangle haybells and we had fans as our programs. Through all of my fears of our so called "red neck wedding", I was very pleased in the end at actually how beautiful it turned out! It didn't cost us an arm and a leg, and we were both very happy and comfortable. And our entire wedding party has been able to wear their outfits again!!! :)

Can someone tell me how to upload some pics of it?

She the Bride wore the traditional white wedding gown with the camo sash. And yes they had the camo wedding cake BEAUTIFUL.  This was an outside wedding down by the river. on-line dating
Hi!
I was listening to you this morning on may way to work and overheard the comments about on-line dating and that you are a sceptic.  It was great to hear the woman's success finding her husband.

My husband and I met on-line, through love@aol.com over 11 years ago. We actually talked over the phone and computer for about 2months and when we finally agreed to meet face to face.  We knew instantly that this was it.  We immediately decided to date each other exclusively. After a year we moved in together and married at year 3.

The match could not have been any better.  Our likes were dead-on, including both of us loving country music...lol.

Internet dating can work.

Thanks,
Debbie (and Mike)

Mom
Jonathan,

The phone clip that you just played about 8:05 about the tornado was not appropriate for family listening.  I had just dropped off my 7th grader at school when it came on and I am so glad that he did not hear the clip.  Really Jonathan, can't we have humor without foul language?  If this is indicative of the direction that you are going in with your morning show , then my radio will be tuned to another station.

Sorry, I thought that we had edited out all the foul language.  The bit itself I thought was quite educational in that we have evolved to a society so consumed with "me first" that we have citizens that are not concerned of a possible life threatening storm if it does not effect us, directly.  So much so that the finale of a tv show is of more importance.  Apparently the idiocy of the phone call was only outdone by my idiocy by playing the phone message left for a tv station in Texas.  I thank you for your input, and will strive to "clean it up".

Eyesight
Good Morning Jonathon! Listening this morning, and hearing about the kids taking vodka into their eyeballs is very disturbing to me. I cannot believe anyone would do anything to cause any damage or possible loss of their eyesight. What are these kids thinking? I was legally blind in my right eye last year before having a cataract removed, and a new lens put in on May 26th. I also have a cataract on my left eye and I am facing surgery on it June 24th. I know how precious eyesight is. Obviously these kids don't. Someone needs to talk with them, and hopefully put a stop this foolishness. I can't imagine not being able to see all the beauty that surrounds us. God help these kids..PLEASE!

I wish you all a beautiful day!

Brett Michaels
I would just like to express my disappointment when I listened to your show this morning.  It was very shameful how you and your co-host carried on about "taking votes on when Brett Michaels would die"  I changed the station from the disbelief.  I wonder if you know the troubles that someone with juvenile diabetes goes through.  Their disease is not because of  lifestyle choices, it is a life long struggle to stay healthy.  Persons with juvenile go through many health crisis due to the difficulty to heal and the stress that diabetes has on the body.  I am amazed and in awe of Brett Michaels that he does not let his diabetes keep him down, and even with the medical setbacks that he has had, he carries on for his cause.

J Rush:
All that she says is very true.  And I should not have used him as a point of reference for the conversation I initiated concerning what will be next in reality tv.  But I still beleive that such a show will come to pass in the near future...I think it may be best that if I could have re-created that converation on the air that I use someone like Ozzy or Lindsey Lohan as the point of reference as to the perfect host who would be the center of attention with the contestants placing bets as to when he or she will die .... on camera.

Now so far as me being unkind to people who have struggled with diabetes, diagnosed as a child or an adult...that is certainly not the case.  I know persons who have lived and now live that struggle.  I know you may think me still as a jaded person...but I am sure you can call Brett's p.r. agent and they cold help us all better understand how to take a personal struggle and make the cash register ring...so I could say the same about him (or them) and problably create a case that woud be hard to argue.

Please know if you or someone you love struggles with any health challenge, my comments of yesterday, or future comments of a celebrity that shares your sturggle are not meant to make fun or a diease.

Thanks for reading,
J Rush

Our Leaders
Jonathan,

I am a VERY PROUD military wife....BUT with that said, I am also a VERY disappointed, disgusted military wife! Knowing that my husband has left his family, put his life on the line, to go to Iraq to defend a country that is full of leaders than cannot stand up and do the same, is unthinkable. To know that our "leaders" will send our men and women onto foriegn soil, putting their lives on the line, to defend this great country, but yet when we are being verbablly attacked on our own land, they stand and applaud! Why should our men and women fight for this country when the leaders will not? I agree with you this morning....I am proud of our men and women but at this point ashamed of our leaders.

Also....My favorite Movie is Top Gun...And YES I have watched it start to finish hundreds of times! ;o)

bad cops
Yesterday, the fourth, I got a ticket for disregarding a red light and improper lane change, the light was green and two cars went through the light behind me, the cop said I did not use my directional, the daahboard indicators were blinking, I use my directionals when I ride my motorcycle and when I drive my car and when I drove my dads semi, friends tell me that yesterday there was a frenzy of ticket writing going on, are the cops getting kickbacks now or are they trying to make up budget shortages?

Thanks for the tickets and the fun.

Y'all are crazy. You are doing exactly what they want you to do.... talking about it. The people who have not watched the commercial are going to go watch it. Y'all are creating a bigger buzz than anything. Even if you say you won't spend your money on it, your kids are the driving force behind what you buy. And think about this from a teenagers point of view... if you don't want your kids to have it, what are they going to want? Great marketing aspect... :)

I heard a joke (if you want to call it that) about a crackhead and a space heater today.  If you have ever known or loved someone with this addiction it is no laughing matter.  You will still from your own mother for your next fix.  Trust me I know.  I was the mother.  I thank god every day that my child got the needed help to beat the addition..   This is no laughing matter.

group of idiots
hey johnathon,
i heard your story this morning on the group that was in town yesterday saying that God hates S.C.   I became slightly upset about this.  Who are these people to prsume to know that. From what i was taught growing up God loves everyone. The people we are speaking werent even from here. So what makes them think they can have the right to come here and make those kind of comments.

Personally speaking, if God hated me i wouldnt be here right now. I"ve had several situations in my life to where if God hated me i certainly wouldnt be here today.I have  lived here for a majority of my life and i am very upset that someone who doesnt know a thing about me could come into my home state and tell me that God hates me. I believe in those who are without sin cast the first stone. otherwise keep your mouth shut.

My Plea to Tiger
I took your advice and went to Tiger's website to make a plea for his presence at the Heritage. Below is a transcript of my request.

"Tiger, I am still a fan! I saw some of the comments that the people of Augusta were making about your return to golf and the Masters and I just have to say SCREW THEM! Obviously the people of Augusta dont appreciate you nor do they express a need for the economic impact that you will have on local tourism. After the Masters comes the Heritage. The people of South Carolina love and adore you and desperately need the spike in the economy that your presence will bring about! We love you, we need you, and we are asking you to skip the Masters and make your debut at the Heritage Golf Tournament in South Carolina! Just this week our legislators loaned 10 million dollars to help the Heritage Tournament stay afloat. That money should have been used to fund our failing school system, especially in my county where the school board, just this week, put a plan into motion that would allow schools to charge parents more money through out the school year. These charges are in addition to what parents are already paying. This is why we need you, Tiger! Your presence in South Carolina would do wonders for our economic well-being. Hopefully whoever screens these emails will see just how desperate we are to have you here and how much we appreciate you and support you inspite of your recent troubles. We also know that the media is like a pack of wolves or sharks who smell blood and attack without reservation! Thank you for reading this and I hope to hear back from you soon!!

Hopefully more South Carolinians join in this effort to get Tiger Woods to come to South Carolina!

My question is...when is he coming? I tried to find it online in the upcoming events and nothing showed. On ticketmaster, it doesnt show that he is coming to South Carolina at all. Black Boy Gone Country

It seems like I'm one of the only few black boys in Swamp Land (Swansea) that loves country, I first got intrested in country when I accidently tuned in one slow boring morning and heard the sweet sound of Reba McEntire voice. Every since then, I've been driving my family bananas with 97.5, its truely been a life changing experience listening to music that I can relate to. You don't have to make over 1,000,000.00 per year or have a high "swagg" status to be able to enjoy the glorious sound of country. Thanks =D

driving

I am in the military, and I thank God that I do not pay state taxes here. I think it is hilarious that legislation is actually spending tax payer’s money to debate about banning texting and talking on a hand-held phone while drivers in Columbia, SC has been tagged as some of the worse drivers in America by several magazines and news agencies. I mean seriously, I have lived in several states in the country and overseas. The driving here is ridiculous. If it was not so scary, it would be funny. All I can say is, only in South Carolina.

Jonathan, I enjoy your morning show in spite of Tumbleweeds silly laugh. On 2/5/10 you said you did not know about
Newberry College' lack of a mascot. As a Nby grad, let me enlighten you a little. Our school colors are Scarlet and Gray. We have been referred to all year as the Scarlet/Gray. A committee has been formed to come up with a new mascot and they are to report their findings at the first football game of the 2010 season.

ps. I think the NCAA has more important concerns than politically correct college mascot.

Thanks for the opportunity to vent a little.

Why is Frugality being confused with selfish and inconsiderate behavior?
So I am listening to the Morning Rush and I hear ladies calling in talking about their husbands "frugality" one lady said that for Christmas she received a roll of quarters and was told to go wash the laundry, the other lady said her husband purchased a shot gun for himself and said she could use it.

So there is one of two things wrong with that, A: neither of these ladies know what the definition of frugality is, or B: being frugal, and prudent with your money is looked down upon in our society so much that the meaning of the word to the lay man has changed.

These men were not frugal, they were selfish, inconsiderate, and lack the basic decency that a woman that has chosen to spend the rest of her life with should recieve.

Why do people in our consumer driven society think that spending money prudently and not living above your means is considered a bad thing? Isn't the opposite of frugality the reason we just went through the worst recession ever?

drive to Charlotte only half crazy.
Try making the road trip to Baltimore Md over the weekend. The whole story follows if you'd care to take the minute to read it. Friday about 3 pm I get home from work and my Wife and Daughter ask if we could take the 3 week old baby to see her great grandmother and great aunts. My family. So by 5pm we were on the road. Ok, so there was to be some winter weather as we cross North Carolina up to Richmaond VA, but the weather in Baltimore was suppose to be clear and cold all weekend till Monday. (or so weather.com predicted) Snow started about Rocky Mount NC and true to the forecast was cleared out by Richmond. I-95 stayed clear no problem. Reached Baltimore and my brother house around 2a.m. Saturday as expected, chatted till 4 then crashed out till 9a.m. only to see that unexpected snow had started to fall.  Great-Grandmother's place was only 20 minutes away and the snow was not that heavy so off we went. Visited till around 2 pm there then because of the snow it took near an hour to get back to my brother's. I didn't have any problems having been born and raised in that area,( Md. is below the Mason Dixon line so no Yankee here) unlike quite a few of the locals. The snow stopped around 9pm with 6 inches of accumilation. Sunday the roads where plowed and mostly clear so we started the return with a planned stop at my other bother's place that's toward D.C. Visited till 2 pm and back on the road homeward. Just a steady ride to get be back near your home office in Pelion by midnight.

Other's may laugh but women just love to show off them babies don't they.

MONDAY SUCKS
Hi Jonathon

I listen to your show every morning.....just had a comment about the little jingle you play Monday mornings "Monday Sucks". My kids are grown, however I have a 5 yr old and 7 yr old grandchild and would hate for them to sing this song and take the attitude that Monday Sucks...just not something I would approve of them saying..I know a lot of parents and grandparents probably feel the same way.

I love everything else about your program and just felt like I needed to let you know my concerns.

Thanks so much and you have a very Merry Christmas!

Obama/Taylor Swift Riddle
Jonathon,

Here's a good riddle for the listeners,
what has a better chance of happening, Obamacare passing in the senate, or the general public getting a Taylor Swift ticket on the official first day of ticket sales at the CLA? Looks like it is going to be Obamacare, better known as Obamaneglect. HAHAHA!!
What a joke ticket sales were, the online scalpers were selling tickets on Monday when I checked for the first time, maybe earlier. How did they get all the tickets before they even went on sale. I was 27th in line for the lottery just to be told in the end I had no chance of getting tickets because my number was at the end of the line for the lottery and I would be better off going home and getting online or calling the ticket hot line, there could not have been anymore than 100 people at the arena. This was at 8:45, I live in Lugoff one hour away, tickets go on sale at 10:00. At 9:45 I was home online and phone just to be told 15 mins later, all tickets were sold out.

My 10yr. old daughter is devastated because she will not be able to go to her first concert and see the musician she idolizes to no end. In order to get tickets, it will cost me around $700 - $1000  for the four of us to go through the on line rip offs. How can you people promote such a scam? Online ticket sales are between $92 - $2000. Sorry, Taylor aint all that. If she can't promote her shows any better than that she isn't worth a nickel in my book. This has also happened in Cal. and Kan. I read the newspaper articles this weekend.

Here's a good line for the 12 days of Christmas,

On the first day of Christmas my Governor gave to me, Nooot ooonne single Taaayylor ticket. HAHAHA!!!!!!!

My name is Rebekah Rhodes.   I made the comment about the tree in Columbia this morning and heard you when I got to work, state that I should call back. LOL, I'm honored so thank you.  Hope you and everyone at WCOS has a very Merry Christmas.

PS- If you ever have anything on the site about what people are doing for Christmas that they don't normally do then here's one for ya; I'm going to my home state of California on Friday to see my mom and sisters whom I haven't seen in almost 30 years. We're all excited!!!

Keep up the Great Work!
Just wanted to let you know that I was listening to you this morning as you enumerated the points of the Preamble (you know, those sillly notions specifically listed in what used to be our venerated and highly esteemed Constitution) and thereby, explained what is and is not appropriate government activity....

I just want to say, "Keep it up!"  and to thank you for enduring the grief I'm sure you get from some camps for pointing out what ought to be obvious and maybe giving some of the folks who are unsure something to think about.

Ignorance is Bliss
It is sickening to listen to your ignorance on the morning rush while you slam Clemson. It's very typical of Carolina Fans to throw cheap shots at a fellow state school. Such Class....

Your mockery of "hillybilly" slang was very insulting... again very typical....and a display of NO CLASS....

The wonderful thing about RADIO and DJ's who have no couth is the freedom of changing the station.... Sometimes you people cut your nose off to spite your face.

Your show this morning made me throw up in my mouth and was the final straw in my attempt to listen to this morning show.... If your boss is a Clemson fan as you suggested this morning perhaps he/she should consider teaching you Class or replacing your .......!

Are you sure you listen?
Then you know that I have a son that goes to Clemson.
You also would have noticed that I give the kick off time for the Tiger games
and I am always nice to Clemson callers, especially when I poke them a little on the air to get them to call.
You would also know that I am a fan of Dabo.  I hoped (on air) that Clemson would hire him, and encouraged Clemson fans not to tar and feather him a few weeks ago.  He is a good coach, and a good "fit" for Clemson.
You obviously don't enjoy a good family feud!
Or maybe you too are dumbfounded about Dabo's new marketing ploy to help CJ improve his Heisman standing, I don't make up the news, I just read it and then say what everyone is thinking, in the case, that would be "what?"  Or however you say "what" in Spanish.
Since you don't listen, I am sure you have not heard me make fun of the Gamecocks and Spurrier, in particular our "Losers" song that we have played way too many times (after losses) to make Gamecock Fans Happy.
Funny, they seem to take it as intended,
At any rate, sorry to offend.
By the way, my boss is a Clemson fan, but he is very confident that Clemson will beat the Gamecocks again this year! He doesn't care what I say, he only is interested in the scoreboard after the game next Saturday.
If that happens, I am sure he and the rest of The Morning Rush Irregulars who are Tiger Fans will be on the phone to "wear me out"! And you can bet I will put their calls on the air.  Because everybody in the family gets a chance to "mouth off".
Obviously you being a happy listener is important to me or I would have not spent this much time typing because I am a horrible typist.  Trust me, there are a dozen reasons for some to be upset with me, but this is not one of them.
Your friend in waiting,
Jonathon Rush

God will soon be illegal
Johnathan,
I love your show! You should be on all day long and you should get a raise! The ACLU is making an American businesses build a mosque at work for muslims to pray five times a day at work on company time!  If a Christian says a SILENT prayer over their food at lunchtime they are FIRED!  God will soon be illegal, and when He is, come and get me and put me in jail!  One at a time fifteen of my Special Forces teammates willingly gave their lives for GOD and country. As the Team Sergeant I was the one who gave the orders to them which resulted in their deaths and then I took them home to their families for burial,  You had to have been there when one of their precious little children pulled on my uniform pants leg and said what have you done with my Daddy and when is he coming home mommy and I miss him so bad! What do you say to this trusting little child who wants her Daddy?

Ft. Hood
I will agree with what you had to say this morning.  I am not against the muselim religion.  I believe everyone should worship as they see fit although I am a Christian.  I do have a great deal against people who would kill all Americans simply for the sake of killing us.  I don't think they should be allowed in our country, in our military or anywhere else that has to do with America.  Send them all back to their home land unless it can be proven that they strictly support this country.

I am sorry, but I have no sympathy for anyone who is out to kill all Americans because we are Americans.

Fort Hood
Maybe this tragedy will serve as a wake up call for our government.  This sounds like a sleeper cell. How could the military leaders keep a person who spews anti-american rants?  How did they overlook this?   This will not be swept under the rug, it is too big and close to home.  Oh they will try to cover it up, but the truth will come out.  I am not against our troops.  I have friends and family serving our country.  The troops need much more support than they get.  I question the military leaders decisions, congress included but let's not open that can of crap. The shooter needs to be tried and hanged like Saddam Hussain.

Fort Hood Tragedy

What a sad day in America!!!  To have (supposedly one of our own) - a fellow American - turn against his own countrymen is a true travesty.  What a COWARD!!!  If he had real issues with being discrimanted against or was that fearful of going to war, either take it to the top OR get your butt out!!  But no, he had to take the devil's way out and take 13 innocent comrades with him along with the 30+ who suffered severe injury.  When are fellow Americans going to realize that this type of cowardness is what brought us to this war to begin with!!  Let us pray for the families and fellow comrades of the fallen and injured.  God bless them AND God bless America!

FORT HOOD SHOOTINGS
I LISTEN TO YOUR PROGRAM ON MY WAY TO WORK AND AT WORK EVERY DAY.YOUR COMMENTS ON THE SHOOTING AT FORT HOOD WERE ARE PROBABLY THE SAME FROM MOST AMERICANS. I SAY MOST BECAUSE SOMEWHERE OUT THERE IS SOME BLEEDING HEART WHO FEELS THAT THIS MAN IS ENTITLED TO SOME FORM OF SYMPATHY FOR HIS ACTIONS.PERHAPS THEY MAY FEEL HE WAS MISTREATED BECAUSE OF HIS NAME OR RIDICULED BECAUSE OF HIS BELIEFS. I SAY BULL.THE MAN IS OBVIOUSLY A TERRORIST AND A COWARD FOR GOING AFTER UNARMED PEOPLE PERHAPS IN THE NAME OF WHOEVER.HOW DID THIS GUY EVER GET IN THE MILITARY IN THE FIRST PLACE?WILL SOME LAWYER TRY TO PLEAD INSANITY OR SOME OTHER LAME EXCUSE FOR HIS ACTIONS? OUR SOLDIERS HAVE ENOUGH TO DEAL WITH FIGHTING FOE OUR AND HIS FREEDOM WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT ONE OF THEIR OWN ATTACKING THEM.I AM GLAD HE IS ALIVE SO MAYBE WE CAN FIND OUT WHY HE DID THIS AND THEN LET JUSTICE BE SERVED.WHEN HIS TRIAL IS OVER,LET HIM JOIN THE ONES HE KILLED AND EXPLAIN TO THEM WHY HE DID THIS. THE FAMILIES OF THE PEOPLE KILLED CAN ACCEPT A DEATH IF IT WAS IN KEEPING US FREE ,NOT WHEN IT WAS DONE BECAUSE SOMEONE HERE DIDN'T LIKE THE WAR.

7 year old girl
I was listening to your show coming to work as I do every day.  Totally agree with you thoughts on refocusing keeping children safe.  All of these folks who use rsources and energy to save the wolves, beavers, etc, need to rethink the world's priorties.  Children and adults who are unable to protect themselves, need us able bodied persons to stand up on their behalf.  Aminmals are inportant, but many are treated more humanely than our precious children.  It breaks my heart waht that little girl must have gone through.  And there are so many more that we don't hear about, abused and neglected.

Thank you for your commentary on this sad event.  It makes us stop and think and appreciate our children and grandchildren and hopefuly take steps to keep them safe and secure.

Cowboy Casanova
Carrie Underwood hit that nail on the head! Leaning up against the record machine he looks like a cool drink of water but he is just candy coated misery. The line of women who want men like this goes all the way around the block. Women complain about being slapped around and then they fight over which one is going to get a Cowboy Casanova. Huh? What gives?

this country has gotten so far away from GOD that is is pathetic-yes there are some limits we must use when punishing our children-however, today's generation is different when you and I were growing up-there is to much out there for the children to see on tv-at the movies-everywhere you look, America is allowing so much filth into our children's lives-that parents just accept it-What has happen to America?  Freedom of Speech has been carried to the extreme.  But it all goes back to the parents teaching their children right from wrong & maybe of more children were taught to say Hey! you said a bad word, that's ugly, then maybe some people will start thinking twice.  CHILDREN hear everything you say.  Jonathan you said a bad word yourself on the air.

I did say hell!  It was intended!  I gues the two tiered comedy angle did not come full circle!

Healthcare

Question:

Everyone is cutting back on healthcare because of cost, yet all
prison systems are still given inmates FREE healthcare, from plastic surgery to having a contract physician cut inmates toe nails.
Retired citizens should be up-in-arms. They pay $125 a month for medicare and most have additional supplemental for another
$200 to $300 a month.
I don't understand.  Commit a crime and get FREE healthcare.

After hearing about tragedy with Chicago honor student I wrote the following

To the one

What has happened to our nation and our people that the world calls free?

There is so much anger…

so much fear…

and too much hatred.

If you listen you can almost hear distant voices saying; “What’s in it for me?”

We all have been blessed with so much more than others.

But we choose to concentrate on all we “should” have or the things to which we believe we are entitled.

All the while walking right by our hurting sisters and brothers.

There is too much to do; how can we make a difference or even try to solve the problems we see?

All efforts would be pointless and in the end will never really matter.

But I have to disagree…

It matters to the one.

The one who needs a kind word, an outstretched hand or shoulder on which to lean.

It makes a difference to him or her when one of these kindnesses they receive.

It may be a job TOO BIG for one to handle on their own.

But if everyone…would reach just one… the work COULD get done.

We have the gift called today and everyone has something they can share.

Don’t wait for someone else

to go…

to give…

to CARE

The one is in front of you don’t walk by and leave him standing there.

Why We Love Columbia
As I was driving to work this morning I heard that you were going to discuss on the show tomorrow, what it is that we love about living here. AS soon as I heard you say it... I though of these reason that came to MY mind.

#1 The weather The weather The weather....can't find it in any other state that it is this close to perfect

#2 We are only 1 and half hours from the Beach

#3 We are only 1 and half hour from the mountains

#4 Look how many BEAUTIFUL State Parks we have.

#5 Look how loyal our Gamecock fans are (win or lose) we are there standing behind and beside them.

#6 Plain and simple OUR state is BEAUTIFUL

I am sure I could go on and on but those are the top 6 reasons we so love South Carolina.

PS. And boy we are never lacking amusement around here take for instant our Governor and of course don't forget the horse person near Conway...Anytime the news comes on and they say "You will never believe this"....I say Lawd PLEASE don't let it be from SC....and usally it IS....LOL....

Thanks

New ambulance scam!
Ok, one of my coworker's father was in the E.R. last Monday. In the waiting room they are able to see everyone come in that's arriving by ambulance. As usual people come in laying down, in pain, etc. when arriving by ambulance. Then, there was a strange occurance. A man came in by ambulance sitting up like he was ready to hop off the stretcher. They watched him go in, and be brought to a room. About 3-5 minutes later they saw him walk through the waiting room and out the door. A couple minutes later a nurse came out and asked her brothers (who were standing just outside of the doors getting fresh air) if they had seen where this particular guy had gone... they said "yeah, he's down the street smoking a cigarette." She said.. yeah, this is the second time he's done that. He can't get a ride downtown, so he calls 911 and gets a "free" ride from the ambulance and runs out quickly after he arrives at the hospital because he's where he needs to be now. SO, that's where all the city $$ is going, to people who have the guts to do something like this more than 1x because they can't call a friend for a ride!!!! What on earth?!

extended schooling
I already think that my kids spend a lot of time in school. I volunteer two days a week to spend more time with my kids. What are they going to do they want to take the kids away and teach them well I will pull my kids out and home school them they need family too. Who is going to pay for the extra instuctional hours they budget cuts are so bad already that classrooms are over crowded and teachers are under paid. Plus teachers have families too. I thaught that home was where they learned most of there work and school inforced it in a sturctured enviroment. What will I do if my kids have no summer that is when I home school them and take them to museums and national monuments all over the U.S. but I wont have any time they plan to take parental teaching out of our hands. They are my kids not the goverments.

Killing you worthless husband
To kill your worthless, abusive, husband, when coming back from grocery shopping, you leave the car running, you open the trunk, you get him to get the grocerys, you get back in the car, when he reaches into the trunk, you slam it is reverse and floor the gas pedal, just for luck, you can drive over him and back up a couple of times, leave the car parked on top of him, call a couple of your girlfriends over to act as witnesses, to the "accident", call the paramedics, be sure and tell them that you was trying to put the car in park and you hit reverse, instead, it is much easier then trying to explain twenty-five bullets in your useless husband, from a six shot revolver, especially if you had to go to Wal Mart and get another box of bullets.

Gator Woman
You got to get right on top of anything to kill it with a cross bow, a cross bow has a very short range, whether you are killing a gator or deer or a racoon, and the guy who said "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" was not just some babbling idiot, in the Practice Gulf War I was training a National Guard Engineer unit, the men did not want the women to accompany them and slow them down and create an unsafe condition where they would have to be constantly protecting them, I took the women out on separate patrols and their combat performance easily and quickly outperformed the men, there were a lot more men then women, I never found out who, but one or more of the women was shooting the ragheads right in the family jewels.

the woman was steering with her left knee,
she had a full keyboard on her steering wheel and was texting,
she was looking at the center of her steering wheel and texting with both thumbs,
she was in the left lane,
with traffic lights and traffic that will have to stop to turn left,
and she had a fare in the back,
I turned right down Sumter? one up from Main, otherwise I would have followed her to see if she had a wreck

You were talking about exercise and diet this morning.  If you like veggies, try raw veggies for snacks (green pepper, cukes, grape tomatoes, celery, radishes and carrots).  Instead of salad dressing for dipping, try salsa.

You can get light cheese sticks for snacks and they give you alot of protien.

There is a Malfunction Junction at Fort Bragg North Carolina near Fayetteville and Pope Air Force Base. a malfunction is a parachute failure, that is really high on my list of exciting things to do and I was in Special Forces, now, a Double Total Malfunction is the ultimate, you know that all of your planets must be in alignment when that happens, you achieve terminal velocity, one hundred twenty miles per hour, I have been told that the more times that you bounce, the less it hurts, I was in and out of the Army from sixty-nine to oh six and did fifteen combat tours, them people was trying to kill me, but I had that class from Basic Training on how to duck

Hacking/Breach of Security
The State and the World is feasting on a sensationalism of the gubernator affair, I do not think he should resign, I feel he should stay in office. I think the Governor's Office, The Legisature, Sled and Homeland Security should investigate the hacking into the governor's computer and e-mail. The State Newspaper has had these e-mails since December. Whoever hacked into these e-mails were looking for somethng and happened upon the relationship. What else have they gained access to, Home Land Security, State Bank Accounts and just think if you have ever e-mailed the governor's
office they have your e-mail and what it is to say they have not hacked into your computer. Now our governor had the e-mail address of all the other States governors and heads of State. This hacker has comprised our State and National Security by hacking. I truly believe we as a state
to seriously investigate this breach and all branches of our government and law enforcement work together on this matter.

That's what ol’ Jakie Knotts would say,

About the Land of Argentina!

I can leave my job without a word at all…

And then my staff will lie for me and stall…

Hem and haw!

Ha-ha-ha-  Ho-ho-ho-

And a supple girl named Maria!

That's how we laugh the day away

In the Land of Argentina!

Ha-ha-ha-  Ho-ho-ho-

Ha-ha-ha-ha-

That's how I laugh the day away

With my ho-ho-ho

Ha-ha-ha

In the Land of Argentina!

Loving here,

Loving there,

You know I’d like to linger!

And stay here in my love affair

In the Land of Argentina!

Ha-ha-ha-  Ho-ho-ho-

Like Hurr-i-cane Ka-tri-na!

I’ve just screwed up my entire life

In the Land of Argentina!

Won’t you please – Hear my plea-!

I guess now I’m a wiener!

That's what my wife is calling me,

Because of Argentina!

They want me to resign as Gov-er-nor…

But I promise not to do this anymore…

She’s not a wh*re!

Ha-ha-ha-  Ho-ho-ho-

And a supple girl named Maria!

That's how I laugh the day away

In the Land of Argentina!

Banks hold Life Insurance on Employees

(Wall Street Journal May 21, 2009)

Banks are using a little-known tactic to help pay bonuses, deferred pay and pensions they owe executives: They're holding life-insurance policies on hundreds of thousands of their workers, with themselves as the beneficiaries.

Banks took out much of this life insurance during the mortgage bubble, when executives' pay -- and the IOUs for their deferred compensation -- surged, and banking regulators affirmed the use of life insurance as a way to finance executive pay and benefits.

Bank of America Corp. has the most life insurance on employees: $17.3 billion at the end of the first quarter, according to bank filings. Wachovia Corp. has $12 billion, J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. has $11.1 billion and Wells Fargo & Co. has $5.7 billion. (Wells Fargo acquired Wachovia at the end of last year.)

The insurance policies essentially are informal pension funds for executives: Companies deposit money into the contracts, which are like big, nondeductible IRAs, and allocate the cash among investments that grow tax-free. Over time, employers receive tax-free death benefits when employees, former employees and retirees die.

if you can picture past amercian idols (rubin the teddy bear, sweet carrie underwood, soul patrol taylor hicks you get the picture and now picture bo bice ,daughtry and adam not the image the show wants. kris had to win to carry on the "american idol image" but at the end of the day vote or no vote win or no win adam is now a rich man i wish him well and god bless the both of them along with there new found friends of idol

Idol is RIGGED!!
I'm done w/Idol. We couldn't get through to vote for Adam because all the lines were busy. If they anticipated record numbers of people voting, shouldn't they have opened more phone lines so those of us who wanted Adam to win could actually get through and vote?

Adam brought out more support from the music community than I ever remember before. Sure, the old timers will still show up on future shows, but bands like KISS, Queen, Santana, and Slash won't be back on that show. Slash all but said he only showed up to work with Adam.

Not only that, but every time Kris sang, all the songs sounded the same with that soft rock/calypso beat, just like Jason Castro from last year. I can already tell you exactly what a Kris Allen album will sound like, not that I'd buy it.... I can't believe we have another putz for an Idol this year. I figured last year's "Idol" sucked enough to make folks realize they were wrong. Guess not!

Adam should've won. He was a better performer, better singer, and a way better artist as far as changing the songs to make them his own. He'll turn out to be a bigger star than Kris.

I think it's hilarious that there was some "Christian" movement to keep Adam from getting the title he should have won. Watch Adam's record sales way bypass Kris's. You can't keep him from being successful just because he's gay. People are SO ignorant, condescending, and hypocritical as "Christians." This proves it, once again. Then they have the nerve to brag about it. Makes me wanna throw up. And they wonder why their congregations are shrinking...

American Idol

Having observed some of the past American Idols when they have come back to perform, there are some who are fabulous, and others who are embarrassing to think the rest of the world will view them as what America chose that year as their "Ideal."  Though Simon emphasizes that it is a singing competition, their comments also underscore it is also a performance competition.  If I close my eyes to just listen, Adam is the much better singer.  However, to watch him is another matter (especially considering some of his past performance pre-Idol pictures of being in drag and clutching his crotch).  Is this what we want the rest of the world to think we idolize?  He has a voice (and there are plenty that like those kind of performances) where he'll be a star no matter what.  Kris, however, will not be an embarrassment, so I hope he wins.

This is how I handled a fav getting booted before they should of...  A few seasons ago when Chris Daughtry got the boot I was so mad I just quit watching all together.  It turns out his career soared more then the winner that year.  This is probaly the same thing that will happen.  People shouldnt get so mad like I did.  Everything works out like it should.

Bill O'Reilly from Fox reports the lastest news from Johnathan's Blog
Johnathan, did you see the OReilly Factor  Monday night ? O'Reilly checked out your Blog and was able to report the thruth about American Idol...Christians are passionate about Danny, Kris and voting...more so than a non-christian. This is the point I was trying to make  Thursday morning. Thanks to WCOS and The Morning Rush for always reporting the news FIRST.

American Idol
I truly like Adam's voice, though he can get under my skin at times.  I truly like Kris' voice when he sings acoustic as when he did Heartless.  I always vote for who I believe SINGS the best and it could change week to week.  Right now I am torn but will vote for who's consistent and brings it this week!

Regarding a "role mode" for our children.  Role models should be at home, ideally but we know that doesn't happen.  I have 3 girls and if I had to choose I'd put Kris and Adam together.

Why?  Both have been gentleman, nice and have been true to themselves and what they believe in.  I don't think either is a bad role model.  Kris could have secrets in his closet and what will u say then about him, the "nice Christian boy who is married?"  Adam is diverse, unique and true to his own comfort level.  He hasn't admitted to what his "sexual choice" is and it is none of our business, really!  He is an entertainer and if you like his style of entertainment so be it.  I like the fact that Adam gets out there and does what he loves and I have no problems w/my girls supporting him.  I prefer that over bigotry, prejudism, racism, etc.

American Idol
I am Janet who called Jonathan yesterday morning.  I wanted people to vote for Kris, not because I think Adam is the better performer.  I think Danny was a lot better than Adam and I don't understand how Danny went home.  I'm not sure if someone just decides who goes home or if "they" actually count the votes.  I also don't agree that Adam is "Idol Material", he is haughty, arrogant, and his choice of a life style doesn't serve as a role model for our kids.  Kris IS more like Danny, and he is my 2nd choice after Danny, so if all the people who would have voted for Danny and are mad and not going to vote at all would just vote for Kris, maybe we could see if it is truely set by the vote or if "they" just decide to give the title to who they want to get it.  Call it a Prostest Vote, call it Fair.  Call it whatever you want, just do the right thing!

American Idol

I'm the first caller this morning that told Jonathan that Kris will get Danny's votes. Not because folks are mad about Danny going home but that Kris is more like Danny....very humble, honest and a good christian man. People like what he stands for not to mention he is a better singer and he sings from his heart. I ask all of you who is a better role model for our children ? A drama queen or a young married honest man ?

American Idol
I am posting in response to Jonathon's latest blog entry. I agree that American Idol is fixed. I've been saying that for years. I do not agree that Adam Lambert should win. He is not "American Idol" material. In my personal opinion he belongs in theatre, maybe Broadway. I have said this since the very beginning and was shocked that he made it this far. How many times have we seen someone auditon and the judges say the person should pursue a career in theatre. I don't like the way Adam sings and I happen to like Kris Allen. I think it should have been Kris Allen and Danny Gokey in the finale. I can not understand why everyone thinks so highly of Adam. I think if he were to win, we would never hear his music like many of the other Idol winners. An American Idol would be someone that you hear their music no matter where you turn. Is that not what American Idol is supposed to be? I would love to see Adam not win just because everyone thinks he will and because I think Kris is a better performer.

swine based influenza?
Ive lived here in the south for 12 years, and Ive lived in a good portion of the eastern seaboard, I have never seen an area that fed on drama and frenzy as SC. They now have named their own disease, SOIV, Swine Originated Influenza Virus, the bottom line, their antiquated disease is a cover up for inciting mass hysteria by 1) instead of properly evaluating they immediatley announced it as suspect, then probable, but never confirmed. Thats because the only confirmation is its THE FLU! 2) with technology out there that can recognize the swine in 4 hrs, it was almost 3 days before they even made it probable 3) If this is what they have to do to get national attention then I have an answer, get with the rest of the country, trust me that would be something "everyone" would want to witness.

HOW MANY...
It takes a possible pandemic for people to realize to was their hands and cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze? Duh...

Also, compared to the "regular" flu, how many people currently have it and have died from it in the past month? I have a sneaking suspicion that it is probably worse than this "swine" flu.

I think I will go about my normal ways and wash my hands regularly and do the courteous thing and cover my mouth and nose when I sneeze and cough. Pandemic not required for something you should have been taught as a child.

Miss America does some good!
You asked when has Miss America ever done anything to unite or reunite America?  Well, please take the time to look at the following website http://www.missamericabyday.com/author.htm  I had the privelege of meeting Marilyn VanDerbur Atler on several occasions and we have stayed in contact now for about 15 yrs.  I have read her book, attended her seminars and watched the videos.  She went public in the 80s about being a child/teen incest survivor in one of the most wealthiest familes in Colorado.  Her life's goal is now to be an advocate for children, youth and adults who are incest survivors like herself.  She tells people she doesn't want to be referred to as Miss America because that was a crown that hid the horror of it all.   She tells people that to keep a secret about incest and/or abuse only serves to protect the perpetrator not the abused.  Her mantra is, "It only works if you do your work."  She has opened many child advocacy centers throughout the world.  I was at the ribbon cutting ceremony in the 90s for the one in Chattanooga, TN.  This is one Miss America that has done more than be just a pretty face.  She has a beauty that goes deep within the soul and reaches out to the battered and scarred.

I love your show, the music and all the good times you share with everyone.  Perhaps you can help spread the word that no one has the right to abuse a child, teen or adult.  Let's keep our children safe!

Please check out the website and if you feel it can help others who need help in the recovery process or to teach them how to keep their children safe or how to look for the warning signs then post her web address for all to see.  Did you know that there are warning signs for an infant who has been sexually abused?  Would you even think someone could get a thrill out of harming these innocent babies and children.  It happens and Marilyn VanDerbur Atler is helping to raise public awareness.  We must also do our part.  It could be your family, your neighbor, your friend who suffers this heinous tragedy!  Help spread the word and let's make a difference!

God bless as you continue to encourage and inspire others thru the sounds of country music!!

Why does being Gay matter???
I do not understand why a big deal has to be made about Adam being gay on American Idol.  A poll would never be made about whether someone would vote for him if he's straight, so why do it just because he's gay?

Great Plan to Fix the Economy!!

I love this plan!

This was an article from the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday.

The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?" I thought this was the BEST idea. I think this guy nailed it!

  Dear Mr. President,

  Patriotic retirement:

There's about 40 million people over 50 in the work force; pay them $1 million apiece severance with three stipulations:

  1) They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

  2) They buy NEW American cars. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

  3) They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage- Housing Crisis fixed.

  All National financial problems fixed!!!

I LOVE A COMMON SENSE PLAN!

Jonathan, I just wanted to thank you for posting my email on your web site, maybe now what Alieena has will be known better by people. I have done all the research on her Alopecia and with no luck everything I find says its one of those forever things. We have tried the injections (which the doctor gave her 35 injections in her head!) and we chose not to go through that again because its not a guaranteed thing, we have also tried every cream they offered but with no successful luck, and insurance does not cover "experimental medications" for Alopecia, so now my mission is to find more children or adults with Alopecia so Alieena doesn't feel so "alone". Alieena is such a bright and friendly little girl, she will just make you melt. I have stopped asking myself "why" and have learned to trust and believe that God has a reason and a plan for everything and everyone. But trust me if by some small chance that I could switch places with her so she doenst always have to make sure her spots are covered and the tears go away I would give anything to switch with her. She is my heart and unlike any mother or father it breaks my heart to see her cry over something we cant fix. So if anyone out there knows any other information that I my not be aware of or if anyone has Alopecia please feel free to contact me at jennifer.mcknight@salemcorp.com Thank you again to everyone who donates there hair. We will be wig shopping soon. Thank you.

Christmas Gift
Jonathan,
I wanted to thank you for giving us the opportunity to share Chad's story with your listeners.  Chad was much like his father... liked by almost all who knew him and uncomfortable with the spotlight.  It means so much to us to have his memory live on through the kind acts of others.  Although I have countless stories about simple acts of kindness, I wanted to share one, in particular, with you.  The first Christmas after Chad died, I was preparing to do some of my traditional baking.  I went to the grocery store and purchased everything on my list, including the things I would need to make Bob's favorite carrot cake.  Once I got started, I realized I needed one more package of cream cheese, so I called to ask him to pick it up for me on his way home.  Of course, once he arrived, he could not find it, so he called me and stayed on the phone as I directed him to the specific location and shelf in the store!  We stayed on the phone chatting as he walked to the check-out line.  When our conversation was over, he realized that he was not in the express lane and started to move.  The children in front of him, however, caught his attention, so he stayed where he was.  These children were laughing and playing, as children do, and kept asking their mom if they could get candy.  The mom kindly told them no as she worriedly watched the items add up on the register.  Bob could tell by the way they were dressed, that they did not have a lot to spare, so he asked if he could buy the children the candy they wanted.  She tried to decline, but he persisted.  As the cashier completed the sale, Bob told him to continue with his one item and the candy because he was going to pay for her groceries.  She tried again to decline, but Bob insisted.  With tears in her eyes, she humbly thanked him and said, "Thank you...you don't know what this means to me."  With tears in his eyes, he responded, "Maybe I do.  Please use the money for your children's Christmas, instead."

Honor Flight - WWII Veterans to D.C. Free
Hey Jonathon,
I listen to your show every morning on the way to work and you always wish you had some positive news to share....well, we are taking another 89 veterans to D.C. on April 15 free with Honor Flight SC (we took 87 on our first flight on November 15, 2008)....our program has raised money through private donations throughout the community and even in the recession we have raised enough money to send 2 more flights to D.C., one is April 15 and the other one is May 27.  We are planning 2 more additional flights in the fall because of the number of applications and the overwhelming response from WWII veterans in the Midlands who served our country and want to go see their memorial!  Hey Jonathan, a big shout out to Bill Dukes, owner of the Blue Marlin restaurant, who had the vision to put this all together....we rock!!!  We love the "Greatest Generation"....Donna

A Giving Child

My 5 year old daughter Hailey was watching the news and saw the story about the little girl who organized the fundraiser for people to give there hair to Wigs for Kids. She told me she wanted to give her hair to little girls who did not have any hair. We went to Kenneth Shulars this weekend durring the Childrens Chance Charity and cut right at 10 inches off her hair and donated it to Wigs for Kids. All you hear in the news anymore are people getting murdered or the stock market dropping even more. I thought it would be nice to hear something good from a child.

Another Good Samartian
I tried calling your show this morning but could never get through before I had to go into work. I enjoy your program
very much and yes we need more people like Bob.

On Tuesday we had an older lady trying to purchase an air
conditioner. She stated she only had $70 on her debit card
and her credit card only had $321.00 on it and only needed
$20 more dollars to buy the air conditioner. I called the credit
center and tried to get her credit limit raised so she could purchase the air conditioner. They would not raise her limit.
So I got approval and discounted the unit $30.00. We maxed
out her store credit card then tried to run her debit card for the
amount she thought she had but her debit card kept declining.
She was walking out the door when another customer ask me
how much she needed and I told him 75.83 he told me he was
going to pay the remainder to go get her. His only stipulation
is that he remain anonymous. He did not want her to know who
gave her the monies. We brought her back into the store and
told her. She was taken aback and her only response was the
God Does Work in Mysterious Ways. The act of this gentleman
made all of us feel good. I had to tell everyone in the store
what he did. There are so many great humans out there.

Now with the officer that spoke on the show this morning I have
to agree with him. We have seen alot of the merchandise credit
card. We have had indivduals to sell a merchandise card in the parking lot for less than what the balance on the receipt they show them. They come into the store and try to use the card only to find out there is no balance on the card. They get upset
with us because this other person showed them a receipt with a
balance. We have individuals constantly soliciting in the parking
lot stating they need money for gas to get back home.

Now with Bob's son he was at a gas station trying to get gas not
in a parking lot of a home improvement store. My heart does
hurt for Bob's family and the senseless death of Chad.

Thank you again, I do enjoy Rush on my way to work each morning.

Benefit concert again..
Hey Yvonne, also meant to say that if you get the media involved... like wistv, then you have a little more pull  and they might actually help you get a concert going... if not a concert then possibly getting at least a few thousand on support for this child.  take care.

Love It!

Jonathan!  Thanks for switching to country.  That is the best thing you could have done! I love listening to you in the morning cause you crack me up! haha.  And it helps that i know your kids so i can kinda follow you when you talk about your family. It makes it fun. Keep up the good work and you should start doing the morning show on a local television station... that would be awesome! Go Gamecocks!!!!! (to all you sorry clemsux fans) :)  God bless!

P.S.  Yvonne... you might wanna try to get deirks bently or josh turner as well since they are sc fellows.  And i would come and give much money if you got taylor swift! Shes Amazing and i cant wait for her concert in charleston. . . but that is my reccomendation.  Many times if you tell record companies (big machine..etc) the story and what you want out of it (concert) then they will be more willing to do something like that.

benefit concert

Can anyone help me with this??  I own a nightclub in Sumter South Carolina, however I have a relative (5 yr old) with Neuroblastoma, a rare form of a deadly cancer that only affects children.  I would like to have a concert starring Darius along with Hootie & the Blowfish here in Sumter with all proceeds going to the family of Bayler Teal.  Both of his parents are no longer employed and the insurance they had has run out.  The family makes numerous trips to Charleston, SC, for his treatments which sometimes last for weeks.  Bayler his a huge Gamecock fan.   I am hoping that someone reading this may be able to pass along this info to Darius and the group and they may be willing to help us!!
If the "Blowfish" are not available - does anyone have any suggestions ????

Thank you, Yvonne - pinkdragsterdriver@yahoo.com

DJJ
John:

I hope you will talk one day about the fate of the kids at DJJ.  Most people think or rather don't think much of them.  Trouble kids or they wouldn;t be there-- maybe, but, most of them need guidance and help to stop being "trouble" and start being an answer to that trouble.  Judy Byer and Stacy Atkinson are trying to keep their hope alive and working like the devil to keep programs alive that will not only help them but, society as a whole.

They have real training-- on site training-- welding brick masonary, hospitalitylandscaping and a few others-- now manned only by volunteers.. Budget cuts.... houses closed where kids could learn to live, taking care of themselves and each other without bars, closed,

If you can do nothing else, would you please look into this yourself and then make the public aware.  One hour a month would make a tremendous difference to one kid.

I am a volunteer and was a troubled kid at one time. Someone helped me and I hope you can help the people at DJJ find a lot more of people like that.

Thanks for your time.

Bob (The Builder)

Hey Jonathan. I was emailing you in regards to your helper Bob Radvansky. I heard the interview that you had with him this morning and right after the interview, I tried calling the radio station but the line was either busy or I got no answer. I just wanted to write and tell you about the Radvansky family bc I know them personally. Well, I know his brother Scott bc he is married to my cousin, so I guess that Bob's family would be my family to an extent :-) The Radvansky's are always willing to help anyone that they can and they sometimes go out of their way to help. My grandparents have a beach house down in Surfside and Bob's brother lives down there is his wife and son. His wife is my cousin and her son is the first great grandchild of our family, so my grandparents go down there quite often to keep him. Bob's brother has helped my grandparents out in so many ways with any kind of repairs or little things that need fixing doing to the house. So I just wanted to put a great word out about the whole entire Radvansky family, and by the sounds of, they all pretty much work in the construction business or do some kind of construction. You got yourself a great helper!

Helping others -- My son---Jonathan's daughter!!
I was listening this morning and heard that you were asking for stories about helping others. This past week my son (Barin) and YOUR daughter (Janie) gave up their spring break to help others. You know that they chose to ride to D. C. in  a van and pay their way to go there and help others--when they could have gone on a "spring break" vacation like so many other college students--Pnut and i know you and your wife are as proud as we are that our kids chose this as their "spring break"!!

We should not need a federal oversite committee to tell AIG that what they did with the money was wrong and probably against the law. AIG was operating at a loss of millions or maybe billions of dollars. The AIG executives did not earn nor deserve those bonuses. The AIG executives did not earn nor deserve their regular salary paychecks that they got. The CEO who makes twenty-six million dollars a year has a whole level of middle management executives who make all of the decisions and run the company. The CEO makes no decisions or gives any orders or makes any policy or even answers his own telephone. The CEO can stay home and collect his twenty-six million dollars and does not even have to come in to work to pick up his paycheck as he can have that direct deposited to his bank account.

Dogs
Jonathon,
I guess my news is bad news, but I have a favor to ask.  Last week one of my dogs disappeared for several days.  When she came home, she was a very sick little dog.

The vet told us after a blood test that she had gotten into anti-freeze.  The anti-freeze not only taste good to animals  because it is sweet but it also attracts them as it smells sweet.  Of course, animals use their sense of smell as a source of survival.  Please advise your listeners that anti-freeze is deadly to animals and is a slow and horrible death.

We had to put her down and it is like loosing a member of our family.  Thanks for letting your listeners know.

Popcorn Sutton

This morning Jonathan expressed to listeners that he didn't know who Popcorn Sutton was and had never heard of him.  But, the History Channel has shown his story many times.  While he did indeed make his living by breaking the law and by breaking it more than once, anyone with any kind of humor and with any interest at all in people in general and the stories behind their lives would have to admit that he was quite an interesting character.  My wife and I both thorougly enjoyed hearing about Popcorn and agree that he was a mountain legend.  RIP Popcorn.

Education Comment:
As a psychology professor, I frequently teach, discuss, and have researched the applications of positive reinforcement and punishment.  In fact one of my professors once commented that he had shocked more rats than anyone around!  For humans, however, it would be impossible to perform a controlled study on corporal punishment imposed upon children.  This is because it would be unethical if not illegal to randomly assign children to receive/ not receive corporal punishment. The best we have is anecdotal evidence to support the use of said punishment.  That is, we look at the adult outcomes of those of us who were subjected to it as opposed the outcomes of those of us who were not subjected to it.

Some research against use punishment indicates two things: First, exposure to punishment might result in increased aggression.  Second, punishment might limit positive behavior in others who are not receiving the punishment.

No doubt, I still sympathize with teachers and school administrators; they are responsible for the learning outcomes of the kids, but their power is more limited than ever.  Kids, these days, receive all of the rewards without having to behave appropriately to receive them.  They have the MP3 player, the Ipod, the cell phone etc…, but did not have to achieve to receive.  Teachers are on thin ice when it comes to giving correction to the child; some educators have even proposed that we stop using red ink to grade tests and assignments.  Parents are also to blame as we are the ones buying the cell phones, MP3 players and so forth.  Instead of the parent saying if you do x I will buy you Y, we are saying if you’ll stop nagging I’ll buy you Y.  It seems like parents are attempting to buy love and respect from their kids…did I mention that I have a 14-year old daughter who already wants a Ford Mustang?

There is no way to know if punishment would correct every child and not every child needs correcting.  But with increased school violence, decreased performance, and the need for resource officers it is evident the something needs changed.

Sincerely,

d.m.

Discipline In Schools:

I was both a high-in-demand substitute teacher and an assistant teacher for over seven years, working in both elementary and high schools in many dozens of classrooms in several schools.  So my exposure is broad and varied.  I have a degree in education, graduating at the top of my class in both high school and college, but my experience in the lack of discipline in schools drove me away from a desire to be certified and teach full-time.  Because the children, rather than the adults, rule the schools, I now work away from the classroom in the legal field.  When I quit, so did 12 other full-time teachers, the principal, assistant principal, and school administrator.  The experienced teachers are hanging in there just waiting to retire, and the turnover of teachers is skyrocketing.

In kindergarten, a classroom of 30 children begins with maybe a couple of miscreants.  After four months of exposure to the bad behavior of the two, the classroom now consists of 10 to 12 children who have learned that in our school system, chaos is rewarded.  Discipline consists of withdrawal of recess - which isn't much, as many would rather stay inside in the air conditioning anyway, even with the required "heads down on the desk."  Children lie, steal, pinch, kick, call names, and create the usual disturbances.  I had a child who was in constant motion - picking up the contents of other students boxes and throwing them into the air, taking off his clothes, swinging his belt round and round in the air, wandering around the room, yelling, talking constantly (even bit me) - you get the picture.  Meanwhile you are trying to teach over that racket and get the other children to look at you, listen and comprehend rather than at the unruly one. Teachers are not allowed to touch a child.  You cannot forcibly do anything to a child unless they are actually harming either you or someone else, and then you can only take away the weapon being used.  If the child refuses to go with you to leave a room, you can't make him leave.  I had a principle, assistant principal, another teacher, and resource officer all in a kindergarten classroom trying to "talk" a child into proper behavior, while the kid was screaming and throwing things in the air.  They have to wait until they can find the parent (which sometimes takes many hours to locate and for them to show up) to forcibly remove the child. After three months and repeated episodes, they finally kicked the child out of school.  So what do you think those 30 kindergarten children have learned?  That it is not the adults who are in charge, but the bad kids.  Those remaining learned they could get away with similar behavior for quite some time – and the child was replaced by a couple of others who, though not as bad, were exasperatingly disruptive.  A cycle repeated ad nauseum.  Teachers spend an exorbitant amount of time trying to maintain order in a classroom.  I've seen a child hit another over the head with their cast, a high schooler bodily throw someone through the plate glass door, another rip the clothes off a girl in a fight in the classroom (and the girl was the one expelled!), much less the talking, cheating, and blatant disrespect for anyone in authority.  You would not believe what goes on in our schools.

I have an international family that have noticed in most other countries you can gather a group of children together to tell them a story, and they will sit quietly and listen intently.  Not in America.  Kids here expect constant entertainment, and for the most part bounce around like cooking popcorn, their brains wired for television and video games.  I think EVERY person on a school board should be required to substitute teach for one week in the schools they represent (and not the "excelled" classrooms, nor those "handpicked" by the principal).  That experience would be worth a thousand words.

We need back the days of a ruler slapped on fingers, a paddle in the classroom by the teacher that is immediate (not administered an hour to several hours later when the principal ends up showing back up), parents who back the teacher up (instead of threatening suit because how dare a teacher touch their little "angel" who just spit and cursed out the teacher), and children who learn that the adults are actually in charge.  No amount of money thrown at the schools will effect bad discipline.

Schhols these days
I recently attended school with my child after the school could not tell me if my child was in class or not.
The school I am mentioning is in Lugoff-Elgin area. I graduated in 94 and boy how it has changed since then.
The laptops that are supposed to be wonderful are a joke. I saw more kids on AIM and My Space then on school work. I thought they had security settings for that crap.
The classes are very small but yet the teachers (some) can't control the students. In one class they were jumping over desks, sitting in the floors, playing on the computers and if the teachers asked them one, she asked them 15 times. If this would have been when I was in school, you got asked to do something one time.
At this particular school I was told that the reason the students don't care is because what they get sent to the principal (whom is a joke as well)
I requested my child have detention and first they started late, then she was not even on the list to attend, then they slept the time they were there and the first weekend they got 20 minutes early. The second Sat. they got out an hour early. Heck I would like to be able to sleep for 4 hours without someone bothering me. Detention is also a joke.
How kids are suppose to learn discipline for the real world. In the real world you don't get chances and people at jobs don't continually ask you to do things.
You would think that the last few years in school would be the toughest and they would try to be getting you ready for the real world, well at this school you can play around, hell even get in trouble, because @ detention you can nap.
I brought my issues to the principal and ha nothing was done, but I am I surprised, well no. So the next step is the school board.
No wonder our young children are getting in trouble and staying in trouble. Where is the discipline in school and at home? It appears from attending school a lot of the students don't have the discipline @ home either.
PARENT AND STAFF WAKE UP AND TEACH THE KIDS AS WE WERE TAUGHT AND THEY MAY ACTUALLY LEARN FROM THEIR MISTAKES!!! AS LONG AS YOU FEAR THEM THEY WILL CONQUER AS THEY ARE DOING!!!!!

Corporal Punishment.

As a 76 yrs ol graduate think I can tell you a few things. They took the punishment out of school that is when children thought they could tell the teachers what to do. Students thought they did not have to listen to the teachers. They need to put the board back into the Board Of Education the students would learn more also the parents would learn something new.

first off   t/y for b.d. wish
secondly I went to a catholic school and teachers and principle both used the ruler, and when i got home i got the strap.
we did not act up in school,
I blame the gov.
if you punish your kids they threaten to call 911.
boy  we knew better than to threaten our parents,
there is a difference between abuse and corpal punishment
we all as older adults got the paddle /strap
and most of us have grown up to be hard working ,TAX paying adults.
i dont promote abuse but  parental control is ok
but look at the kids of today
gangs drugs drinking no respect for thrie elders or for human life
give me the good old days**************************

discipline
When I was in school we had corporal punishment.  My mom always "encouraged" me to behave because if I got punished at school..that was nothing compared to what I would get when I got home.

Today, parent's are all too quick to take the defense for their children because "their" child is an angel.  These parents need to work at a day care for a week.

And trust me...in my parent's house...you lived by their rules, or you got out.  My then 18 year old brother got his behind beat by my father because he disobeyed.

I give school administration dibs because there is no way in today's society that I would want to try and keep 30 kids in order.

Teacher Shoots dart
If all of these kids were getting discipline at home and had fear of parents and authority, we wouldn't have these problems. I knew better than to act up at school and my daughter knew better. I was not abused or mistreated, it's called discipline. I screwd up, therefore, I was punished. I have seen our Jr. and High school kids and the way they talk to their parents and teachers and just anyone. They have no respect for themselves or anyone else and they all assume we owe them something. It is tragic, these are going to be the kids running our country someday....

As a teacher in South Carolina, I can tell you the majority of the problems in school today has nothing to do with the teaching.  It has everything to do with students that aren't being "parented".  Students that don't have the basis for moral judgements and consequences.  It's beyond time that we hold parents accountable.  All we ever hear is "teachers' accountability".  It isn't my job to raise and parent someone elses child.  Nothing will change until parents stop having children that they refuse to be a "parent" to.   I'm not hired to be a babysitter and my classroom is not a day care center.

Show Me The Paddle
As a 37 year young adult I well remember my fanny being hit with a big wooden paddle for TALKING!  It was all over and out of control when teachers were forced to trash their paddles.

In middle school (in NE Cola) we had an elective teacher that would swat the back of your hand with a ruler for every minor thing.  "Tap, tap, tap..."  Real quick, but hard.  I don't recall getting my hand popped but I certainly remember others getting it.  That would be considered "abuse" in today's society.  Ridiculous!

Bring Back the Paddle!  Bring Back the Paddle!

Education: 8 year old hadcuffed
While I agree that education needs to be changed, preferrably for the better, I am not sure which method or methods would be best because not much else has been tried. Longer school days and years? Wouldn't that just make the kids even more unruly? Being trapped in a desk, in a classroom all day long with little or no play time? What will help unruly kids learn? Not much without parental responsibility and involvement. They're not learning about respecting people and themselves, valuing an education, and setting goals. The education system should not be responsible for teaching these things. It has to come from society first, i.e. parents, and supported in places like schools. Good luck to all of those good teachers who struggle with these issues in their classroom!

Teacher Shoots Student with Foam Dart
If this kid is complaining about being hit with a Nerf dart, be glad she didn't have the Biology teacher I had back in high school. If a kid went to sleep in his class, he pulled out an air horn and blew it! Everyone at school knew about that air horn and no one said anything about it that I remember. You shouldn't be doing anything but listening and learning in class! Teachers do the best they can with little help from parents most of the time. Hey teach, do you need some more ammo for your Nerf gun? Give me a call!

A lot of Morning Rush Irregulars agree with Erin!  I am glad none of my teachers had an air horn, I am sure I would have gotten an ear full!

Parent is going to sue! Ha, I would have called 9-1-1 before I called the office if I were that teacher.

School closed for nothing!
Jonathan, help!  Please help send the message to school officials........next time there is a chance of snow, even when local meteorologists say it's definately going to happen, please wait until the first flake falls BEFORE making a decision to close school.  I understand being cautious and needed to plan ahead, however they were reporting as early as 6pm Sunday night that schools were closed.  The first flake hadn't fallen, and alas we got nada.  Think of all the parents that either have to make arraingements elsewhere (usually costs money) or take a day off with out pay (definately costs money).  Why wouldn't at the very least school officials say, "Let's start with a 2 hour delay and then cancel if needed."  That makes so much more sense.

The 2 hour delay for a extar time to make the call is a good Idea!

FLOWERS FOR GUNS
A LITTLE GUN HISTORY

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
    ------------------------------

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
    ------------------------------

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
    ------------------------------

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated
    ------------------------------

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
    ---- ------------- -------------

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
    ------------------------------

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
    -----------------------------

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
    ------------------------------

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own Government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

List of 7 items:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent.

Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent.

Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort, and expense was e xpended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.

With guns, we are 'citizens'.  Without them, we are 'subjects'.

During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!

If you value your freedom, please spread this anti-gun control message to all of your friends.

The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

SWITZERLAND ISSUES EVERY HOUSEHOLD A GUN!  SWITZERLAND 'S GOVERNMENT TRAINS EVERY ADULT THEY ISSUE A RIFLE.  SWITZERLAND HAS THE LOWEST GUN RELATED CRIME RATE OF ANY CIVILIZED COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!
IT'S A NO BRAINER! DON'T LET OUR GOVERNMENT WASTE MILLIONS OF OUR TAX DOLLARS IN AN EFFORT TO MAKE ALL LAW ABIDING CITIZENS AN EASY TARGET.

I'm a firm believer of the 2nd Amendment! If you are too, please forward.

GUNS FOR ROSES? NOW YOU HAVE 190 PEOPLE THAT CANT DEFEND THERE HOMES AGAINST THE ROBBERS THAT DIDNT AND WILL NOT TURN IN THERE GUNS.

I AM SURE MOST OF THESE GUNS CAME FROM PEOPLE WHO HAD GUNS THAT WERE INOPERABLE, OR SENIOR CITIZENS WHO WOULD NOT HAVE USED A GUN IN CASE OF A BREAK IN, OR PARENTS OF KIDS WHO ARE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH HAVING A GUN IN THE FIRST PLACE, AND NOW SINCE THEY HAVE KIDS, THEY WANTED THEM OUT OF THE HOUSE. IT WOULD ALSO BE A GOOD THING THAT THESE GUNS WERE REMOVED FROM HOUSES WHERE THEY WOULD NOT BE USED SO THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE STOLEN AND USED BY CRIMINALS.

I DON'T KNOW, BUT I IWLL ASK

MOST JOBS REQUIRE A DRUG TEST THESE DAYS WHY CANT THE STATE HAVE A RANDOM DRUG TEST FOR UNEMPLOYMENT AND IF A PERSON POPS POSITIVE THEN THEY WOULD HAVE TO WAIT A MIN OF TWO WEEKS. I THINK THIS WOULD NOT ONLY SAVE TAX DOLLARS BUT WOULD ALSO HELP WITH THE WAR ON DRUGS PEOPLE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SIT AROUND AND GET HIGH ON TAX DOLLARS IF THEY THOUGHT THEY MIGHT BE DRUG TESTED TO DRAW UNEMPLOYMENT OR WELFARE

I am looking for a song title and Who sings it. In the song it says something about friday and being off from work and you want to go out and party.
Its a fast country song. Good dancing song. I normally hear it on Friday morning but I heard it last Thursday morning. I have not heard it since.
By chance do you know the name of this song?  I listen to you guys in the morning. and I followed you from WNOK. . You always do a Great Job no matter where you are. I have enjoyed listening to you for years! and will continue.  Thanks for any help you can give me in locating the name of this song and who sings it.

Do You Ususally hear it on Friday afternoon?
Andy Woods plays a special "weekend mix" at 5 pm.

Not a penny! Not a chance - but I am willing to help - she can send me ONE or two of the babies and I will give them unconditional love and support. Of course I'm sure this will not happen as she would be reducing her $$$$$$$$$$$$$. (The children should at least have contact and not be made to pay for her stupidity.)

There is NO chance she can give ANY of her children the love, attention or support they need with 14 children age 6 and under in the home. If the state does not step in and do something then the federal should (they put their nose in every thing else.)

I do have a perfect solution, though, the doctor who implanted a single, unemployed, obviously unstable mother of six small children with 6+ more embyos should be made to pay child support and carry them on his medical insurance till they turn 18 or get out of school (which ever is longer) and the money should be managed by a guardian assigned to oversee their financial wellfare and stability (and kept out of the hands of their greedy, selfish egg donor.) as well as any benefits they may receive as the "surving octuplets."
I would be willing to serve as the unpaid guardian over their affairs.

Kenny Playboy article
I think after years of talk about him being gay and the rumors about his quickie divorce, he probably just wanted to try and end the discussion once and for all.  and hey it's probably true, after all a guy that can play the guitar and with a voice like his, i'm sure lots of girls were persuaded to "join" him after a show.

Flag Issue
I heard a comment by you Jonathan Rush that was very disturbing. You said that for the first time in your life you were ashamed to be an American and that in protest you hung your flag upside down in your yard.  My family has come from a long line of men and women who have served this country.  When you hung your flag upside down you brought disgrace and dishonor  to the men and women who have faithfully served, and died for our country!  Many lives are touched by this radio station! You have a huge responsibility as a DJ when sharing your personal opinions and actions with your listeners.   While you may have the right to your opinion, it is my belief that you should find a way to communicate your personal opinions in a more positive manner.     I am appalled at your action and I feel that what you said was completely Un-American!!  I stongly feel that you owe your listeners an apology!

I am not sure if you heard the show that morning how you came away with only one thought in a converstation that expressed my outrage of several provisions of the bail out bill and in the same breathe expressed honor and thankfulness of US service men and women, as well as the reasoning behind my peaceful protest.  But I hold myself responsible for not only what "I say" but also for what "you hear" and that can be very tricky.  Certainly I welcome your thoughts and I am sorry that you did not hear the comments that would have relieved you of the percieved personal attack.  I have never measured myself against other radio and or tv personalities in regards to their support of active and retired servicemen and women, but if a measurment were ever researched, I would welcome that report.  Don't think a day goes by that I don't thank God for the daily commitment and performance of the protection of my commmunity, my state, and my country.  In fact my outrage expressed in detail that morning was pertaining to government legislation that could in effect be in direct contradiction to the "health" and freedoms enjoyed by taxpaying Americans as provided by those servicemen and women we both hold in high regard.   I also have had family members who fought for our rights as Americans, not for the right for the federal governement to decide who should and should not be allowed health care procedures as "guided by the HHS".  To not protest is in fact the first step to an awkard conversation with your Grandmother that she has been deemed expendable by the U.S. Government simply because her taxpaying productive years have passed her by. Tom Daschle says we as citizens need to learn the realities of expense of health care, un-needed research, and welcome government intervention that allows someone other than you and your doctor to make those decisions "at the point and time of  diagnosis".  I am assuming that you and I would agree that those are not exactly the values your family members fought and died.  For more information on this topic please buy Tom Daschle's book " Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis".   And be prepared to have a peaceful protest of your own.  Only time will tell if I am over-reacting or if in fact the health care government centralization of private medical information will lead to the detailed plan plainly stated by the man who the White House was "prepared to fight for" to this appointment.  If he had only paid his $137,000 in back taxes prior, he would in fact be!

The woman is a whack job. I think she must have been a patient and not an employee at the Mental Facility. I feel like if she went into all of this willingly then she should not be getting any help. The doctors who did the transplanting of the octuplet embryos needs to have his licenses revoked. There is no way a single mom can raise 14 children, go to school and not have a job. I am not one to have children removed from there mother however in this case I think something needs to be looked into. She has abused the system. People, as her abusing the system is why people that really need assistance cannot get the help. CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY.

WE Want Tx to see Keith and Sugarland!

Jonathan,

I just wanted to share a great story with you. A brief history leading to my story.

I moved here from NY in July 2007 with two of my four children. My oldest was already in Charleston after attending CSU. My third child, Anthony (age 19) wanted to remain in NY. Blessings for me was that he decided to move down here in May 2008. While in NY, he heard the song “Good Directions” and was hooked on Country Music. Since that time, his favorite artist is Keith Urban and Brad Paisley. He’s had a difficult time adjusting to SC, but is starting to get really great friends.

Ok, on with the cute story.  Anthony heard about winning tickets on WCOS and tried on Monday. He was the 7th caller. He called me and was so bummed being so close. He insisted that I try with him today…and the days following…to win with him. This morning before he went to work, he made sure I had the number in my cell. Just before the hour of calling, he texted me saying…. “be hydrated cause this gets intense!”  Just before the break ended...he sent me a text saying “Its Here” We both tried calling with no luck. He called me after and said, “wow, continuously busy…I’ll try during the song next time”  He is trying different strategies.

He is trying to win the tickets so we can both go…considering I love Sugarland! He said I am his date!

I hope he does win…but if he doesn’t, we are still going and will definitely buy tickets.

Just thought I’d share.

Have an awesome day!

Octa-Mom

Jonathon,

I agree with your last caller, this woman is an idiot!!!  Any family even with 1 child who can’t provide for their kids, has DSS place their child/children in foster care. If Nayda can’t provide for her children, what gives her the right to get special treatment and go ask for donations?   Don’t give her a damn thing and if she can’t do it on her own, take the kids and find homes that can.

Her parents are the ones taking care of her other 6 children, they should have been the ones Nayda thought about before having 8 more.   This woman had these children for her own benefit not that she loves kids.  If she did, she wouldn’t be asking for help.

Now as far as her mom and dad, I would like a minute to speak to them.  They need to learn to  say “NO” when it comes to babysitting or support.  They are part of her problem, because Nayda knows she has them to help.

It’s plain and simple, if she can’t do it on her own, find families for them children!

 YOU ARE TO NICE JONATHON!!!!!

Why is it all the women are taking what is typically a "male" position int his conversation and I have assumed the "female" position?  I gues this is one of those cases where only a mother (or a woman) could have a complete perspective.  Or I am just a sucker for a child'e donation fund.

Stimulus Package Explained

Sometime this year, taxpayers will receive an Economic
Stimulus Payment. This is a very exciting new program that I
will explain using the Q and A format:

"Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
"A. It is money that the federal government will
 send to taxpayers.

"Q. Where will the government get this money?
 "A. From taxpayers.

"Q. So the government is giving me back my own
 money?
"A. No, they are borrowing it from China. Your
children are expected to repay the Chinese.

"Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
"A. The plan is that you will use the money to
purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the
 economy.

"Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy
 of China?
 "A. Shut up."

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the US  Economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:

If you spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China.

If you spend it on gasoline it will go to Hugo Chavez,
 the Arabs and Al Queda

If you purchase a computer it will go to Taiwan.

If you purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to
Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala (unless you buy organic).

If you buy a car it will go to Japan and Korea.

If you purchase prescription drugs it will go to India

If you purchase heroin it will go to the Taliban in Afghanistan

If you give it to a charitable cause, it will go to Nigeria.

And none of it will help the American economy.

We need to keep that money here in America. You can keep the money in America by spending it at yard sales, going to  a baseball game, or spend it on beer (domestic ONLY), or tattoos, since those are the only businesses  Still in the US.

Thanx,

Now I understand!  Jrush

I can't believe that YOU did not know this!
Insurance compnanies have been deciding who gets treated and who does not for many, many years!

Certainly I have heard of medical nightmares with people who have to fight for approved medical expenses.  Even Barack Obama spoke of his mother who was diagnosed with cancer and had to fight insurance companies for procedure approval and expense.  He was outraged by that, and we should all be.  But now the people making that decision will not be persons from an insurance company you chose (or had them chosen for you).  These are government workers who make that decision.  My grandmother is in a nursing home.  I can tell you that she worked hard ALL her life, paid her taxes (something Mr. Daschel does not do), raised her family, loved her husband, and gave to her church, charities and I personally witnessed the non-tax deductible giving that she showed to people all her life.  She is 90 and not productive now as a tax payer, but can she just have the opportunity to live out her life with medical care from her insurance company, and if need be medicare and medicaid from a government that she pledged allegiance to, paid taxes to, lived through the great depression, and never broke a law (that I know of) she may have gotten a parking ticket, but I am sure she paid it.  Would the world miss her if she were already laid to rest in her grave next to my grandfather?  Probably not.  Will she be happier in eternity in the very presents of the God who created her...YES!  Should Tom Daschle show her the door to be welcomed by St. Peter at the gates?  Hell No!  Tom Daschle should learn that if you don't pay your taxes, you don't even have a voice, let alone write a book that is used as the template of socialized health care.  Yes I know he is not the head of HHS, but don't think the author of the template is not going to be on the government payroll as a Secretary to the Director of HHS.  That is coming!     Remember "he is uniquely" qualified to the director of this agency.  Obama's words, not mine!  I would argue that Jack Kervorkian is more qualified!

The protocol for flying a flag upside down is to show distress - that is true - but the "distress" in question is to show that your base has been over run by enemy forces, and that they are in control.

Fly your flag, or don't.  As a Veteran from a long line of Veterans in my family who have shed blood and lost loved ones for your right to do so, I understand that whether I agree with you or not, it is your RIGHT to do so.

The truest measure of a people's freedom is their ability to listen or watch somone protest an issue, be completely against what they are saying or doing, and respect their right to do so.

I just thought you'd like to know the ENTIRE protocol for your particular protest.  Be safe brother...and God bless you.

Should be ashamed!!
You have the right to fly the American Flag upside down but there is no reason or point to do it.  You flying that American Flag upside down is a serious sign of disrespect to the Men and Women who are busting their butts every day to give you the right to speak on the radio.  I know you have upset a lot of people with this and I personally feel that all the Military branches and Vets deserve an apology from you.  I listen to you every morning and starting today, I will no longer have you on my radio unless something changes.  I am a recently seperated Vet and this hit me very hard.  I really don't even know what else to say.

You fly the flag upside down???Shame on you.
Regardless of what you think of the President's plan, good or bad, and I'm not all for it, you NEVER fly the flag upside down.

Oh, you have the right, but I also have the right to turn off WCOS!

Thanks for your thoughts.
I have never even thought about flying the flag upside down ...until yesteray.
I figure if I would fight for the right for other Americans to burn one in protest, this seems like a much more civil protest.
I am sure my uncle would approve, any man who fought at the battle of the bulge should have a proper persceptive on when and how to fly the flag.  And to quote him, if He and others like him had not served this country, we would all be speaking German right now.  With this Bail Out plan, it looks we may be speaking Chinese.

Health care issue
Every one should send an e-mail to the president about the
health care in this new stimilous package.  I am a 69 year old
and work still full time in a medical office and I certainly want to
be able to have what ever the best treatment  that I could have
if I got a serious illiness and that right should be for all people.
We pay our fair share of the taxes and should not be thrown
aside because of age.  The younger ones whould realize they
are getting older every day and one day they will be here also

What Were We Thinkin'?
This is a good one!!!!!!!!!!!
The shoe is on the other foot and the Mexicans from Sonora
don't like it. Can you believe the nerve of these people? It's almost funny.

State of Sonora is angry at Influx of Mexicans into Mexico .
Nine state legislators from the Mexican state of Sonora
traveled to Tucson to complain about Arizona 's new
employer crackdown on illegals from Mexico .
It seems that many Mexican illegals are now returning to
their hometowns and the officials in the Sonora state
government are ticked off about it.
A delegation of nine state legislators from Sonora was in
Tucson on Tuesday to say Arizona 's new employer
sanctions law will have a devastating effect on the Mexican
 state.
At a news conference, the legislators said Sonora
Arizona 's southern neighbor, made up of mostly small
towns - cannot handle the demand for housing, jobs and
schools it will face as illegal Mexican workers here return
to their hometowns without jobs or money.
The law, which took effect Jan.1, punishes employers who
knowingly hire individuals who don't have valid legal
documents to work in the  United States
Penalties include suspension of, or loss of, their business
 license.
The Mexican legislators are angry because their own
citizens are returning to their hometowns, placing a burden
 on their state government.
'How can they pass a law like this?' asked Mexican
Rep. Leticia Amparano-Gamez, who represents Nogales .
'There is not one person living in Sonora who does not
have a friend or relative working in Arizona ,' she
 said, speaking only in Spanish.
'Mexico is not prepared for this, for the tremendous
problems it will face as more and more Mexicans working in
Arizona and sending money to their families return to
hometowns in Sonora without jobs,' she said.
'We are one family, socially and economically,' she
said of the people of   Sonora and Arizona
 Wrong!
The   United States is a sovereign nation, not a
subsidiary of Mexico, and its taxpayers are not responsible
for the welfare of   Mexico's citizens.
It's time for the Mexican government, and its citizens,
to stop parasitically feeding off of the United States and
to start taking care of its/their own needs.
Too bad all the US states don't pass a law just
like Sonora . Maybe that's the answer, since our own
 Congress will not do anything!

New Immigration Laws: Read to the bottom or you will miss
 the message...
 1. There will be no special bilingual programs in the
 schools.
 2. All ballots will be in this nation's language.
 3. All government business will be conducted in our
    language.
 4. Non-residents will NOT have the right to vote no matter
     how long they are here.
 5. Non-citizens will NEVER be able to hold political office
 6. Foreigners will not be a burden to the taxpayers. No
welfare, no food stamps, no health care, or other
government assistance programs. Any burden will be
     deported.
7. Foreigners can invest in this country, but it must be an
amount at least equal to 40,000 times the daily minimum
    wage.
8. If foreigners come here and buy land... options will be
restricted. Certain parcels including waterfront property
are reserved for citizens naturally born into this country.
9. Foreigners may have no protests; no demonstrations, no
waving of a foreign flag, no political organizing, no
bad-mouthing our president or his policies. These will lead
    to deportation.
10. If you do come to this country illegally, you will be
actively hunted &, when caught, sent to jail until your
deportation can be arranged. All assets will be taken from
    you.

Too strict?......
The above laws are current immigration laws of MEXICO !!!
These sound fine to me.  NOW, how can we get these laws to
 be  America 's immigration laws??
 WAKE UP,   AMERICA -

 we are losing our country.........

Don't Mess With Senior Citizens
We went to breakfast at a restaurant where the 'seniors' special' was two eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast for $1.99.
'Sounds good,' my wife said. 'But I don't want the eggs.'
'Then, I'll have to charge you two dollars and forty-nine cents because you're ordering a la carte,' the waitress warned her.
'You mean I'd have to pay for not taking the eggs?' my wife asked incredulously.

'YES!!' stated the waitress.

'I'll take the special then,' my wife said.

'How do you want your eggs?' the waitress asked.

'Raw and in the shell,' my wife  replied.
She took the two eggs home and baked a cake.

Mr Lott is out gunned, out manned and the courts keep backlogging cases so these crackheads are on the street within hours.Look at the respect that was shown this past weekend. Across from headquarters is a shotting at a bar, people come and throw rocks at police. They caused thousands of dollars in damaged police cars. {nice respect} Phelps will receive a slap on the hand.Politicians and big CEO's rob us blind and get away with it.
Law enforcement cant raise our kids, we have to. RESPECT, its needed in schools, churches, and at home. Parents have to start raising there kids, not letting them raise themselves.Set an example.
Mr Rush, you might want to tell your son that the world isnt perfect, but we can make change. If everyone showed RESPECT, love, and personal value for one another, we can clean up the potheads, crime, and make our neighborhoods liveable

Michael Phelps
Good Morning Jonathan

I listened to the comments everyone had this morning on my way to work, on the behavior of Michael Phelps.

As far as the legal issue is concerned, we can all see that he actually smoked marijuana at the party.  However, how can he be charged when there was no law enforcement present at the time.  Everyone at the party would also have to be charged, because they were probably doing the same thing.  It’s not like he was caught in a drug bust.  I think it would be a waste of taxpayer money to try to prosecute because of a picture.

On the other hand, Michael has admitted he acted irresponsibly and apologized for his actions.  He knows the role model he has become and I’m sure he regrets this incident, that will follow him for the rest of his life.

From what I’ve read, this guy has only been in trouble twice.  A DUI after the previous Olympics were over and this incident not long after the 2008 Olympics were over.  Perhaps this is just a guy blowing off steam after years of very intensive training and the stress of competition.  The fact that he’s not trying to deny his actions and has apologized speaks well of him.  He’s not blaming anyone else for what he did.

Perhaps everyone would be satisfied if he stepped forward, paid the fine to save having a trial (which would cost SC taxpayers a lot of money and some lawyer would make a huge fee), and go on with his life.

Those are my thoughts.  I’m a senior citizen who enjoys listening to you on my way to work in the morning.  I live in Camden, so have a good distance to travel on the interstate.

Keep up the good work.

Banking Problem Explained For Carolina Cowboys!

Young Chuck moved to Texas and bought a donkey from a farmer for $100.00.  The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next  day.

The next day he drove up and said, 'Sorry son,  but I have some bad news, the donkey died.'  Chuck replied, 'Well, then just give me my  money back.'

The farmer said, 'Can't do that. I went and spent it already.'  Chuck  said, 'OK, then, just bring me the dead donkey.'

The farmer asked, 'What ya gonna do with him?  Chuck said, 'I'm going to raffle him off.'

The farmer said 'You can't raffle off a dead donkey!'  Chuck said, 'Sure I can Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead.'

A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and  asked, 'What happened with that dead donkey?'  Chuck said, 'I raffled him off. I sold 500  tickets at two dollars apiece and made a profit of $898.00.'

The farmer said, 'Didn't anyone complain?'  Chuck said, 'Just the guy who won. So I gave him  his two dollars back.'

Chuck now works for Goldman Sachs.

Our Country's Goverment
From my sons 4th Grade History Book The History of Our United States regarding George Washingtons farewell address:

"Above all, he stressed that a democratic goverment could work only in an atmosphere of strong morality. He said that morality would result only when religion held its proper place in the lives of its citizens."

I have to wonder what he would say regarding the morality of our current leaders or American's in general for that matter.

66 and still kicking
While what Michael Phelps did was stupid, especially in his position, he didn't try to deny or blame someone else.  Do you really think he does this all the time?  It would show up in his many drug tests.  What about the SC students who threw the illegal party?  Did Michael carry an illegal bong and pot around with him?  What about the jerk who took the picture?  Does he not know that it is illegal to attend drug parties.

We love to point out people with high visibility profiles making mistakes.  Lets start at home.  Shouldn't we be screaming to clean up the drug parties at our colleges?

"simple" posession
Jonathan – from a mom who dealt with a son addicted to drugs for 12 years, let me say – there is nothing “simple” about posession and using any kind of drugs. Pot turned into cocaine and then crack for my son and it almost destroyed his life and his families. Thank God he is clean now and has made something of his life but it took away many good years that he can’t get back.

Dear Mr.Rush,

My name is Hailey and I am a fifth grader at Richard Winn Academy.

I have a few questions.
# 1 What time in the morning do you have to get up for work?  I get up at 4:05 AM (because 4:00 am is just too dadgum early!)

#2 What kind of music do you like?  I have always Loved The Eagles, Jimmy Buffet, and everything WCOS plays!  I did like Kanye West for a short time.  About 15 mnutes.

#3 Do you like your job that you do now? Thanks for your help.  I LOVE being on 975WCOS!

                                                                     Sincerely,
                                                                       Hailey M.

Gay Bashing
I can't believe you are still gay bashing. After last week's airing of the E-Harmony spot, again bashing gays, I would have thought you would be more sensitive. But, I guess not.

Again, this morning's spot about Calling Gay Day was entirely inappropriate. How about practicing some tolerance of others.  I admit that the E harmony bit may have been a bit-much.  However, I would like to point out that we make 100 times more jokes about heterosexuals.  You may also be interested in knowing that most of the Gay bits you hear on air have already been heard by friends that are guy.  If they think it is funny I usually play it.  That is the only barometer I can use.  Thanks for your input, It is the only way I know what listeners are thinking!

RUDE
Jonathon,
I was scanning stations this morning and  found you was talking about the eharmony spoof- I listened to it and thought it was funny..and I am gay. But you cont. to go one about how you was voted best and blah blah blah..and you have people with alternative lifestyles in your "professional" life.....thats just like Sarah Palin saying she would tolerate gay & lesbians- thats rude. You may have that personal opinion- which is fine to have- or you may be trying to be a shock jock.. either or...you can't be that open about it and not exspect someone to say something back- thats like the "Moving On Up" song about Obama- like it or not- he is our next president and I am sure it didn't sit well with some. You need to keep that in mind...and by the way- you might have been voted the best- but you still stink as a dj...and being moved to a station that isn't that popular shows it..just my opinion. Another reason to turn by XM back on.

Why you have not heard from the Tiger Fans!!

Tommy Bowden resigned effective immediately at the request of President Bush. Bowden will now become the head of FEMA.

Bush said that he was impressed by the way Bowden evacuated 80,000 people from Tiger Stadium last Saturday in less than an hour.

It seems 90% of the time it is played it is in this version. I wish it was played more in the original. I actually change the radio station when it comes on anymore.Keep up what your doing . Prison Early Release
Jonathon, please get your facts straight before all the sarcastic remarks about prison early release.

1. the system has been in violation of state and/or federal guidelines for years by deplorable housing conditions, meals, medical care, etc.

2. There arre many who are 1st time NON-VIOLENT offenders who are given upper end sentences just because the judges can which in turn is crowding the prisons and taking space up that could be used for violent offenders.

3.  There is already basically no parole opportunities, on average only one in 20 makes parole and then only usually only the ones that they feel will be back again.

4.  Many who are locked up would actually have a better chance and regaining a proper place in society if they were required to do extended community service instead of just locking people up.

5.  A fair number of incarcerated inmates are Vietnam (or later) vets and the costs for upkeep of these individuals, as well as the upkeep of seriously ill (physically and/or mentally) inmates takes a very high toll on an already overburdened system.  Further, for many of the Vietnam veterans, they could be better served by drug and/or vocational rehabilitation programs instead of jails.

6.  Judges have no trouble pushing people in for either the maximum or close to the maximum time while not looking at all factors.  I am not saying that a serious offender should get off with just a slap on the wrist but at the same time, there is at least some common sense to the Federal Sentencing GUIDELINES.

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT, I WAS ONLY REACTING TO THE HEADLINE.  MOST PEOPLE I AM SURE READ IT THE SAME WAY.  I KNOW JOHN OZMINT AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT THERE IS NO BETTER PUBLIC SERVANT AND STEWART OF OUR MONIES AND FACILITIES.  SOMETIMES ON THE MORNING RUSH WE RESPOND ONLY TO THE SUPERFICIAL NOTION OF A STORY, NOT IN DEPT COMMENTARY.  WE LEAVE THAT FOR OUR SITER STATION, 560 WVOC!  THANKS FOR YOUR CONVERN AND WE PROBABLY HAD TOO MUCH FUN WITH THAT ONE WITHOUT ACTUALLY GOING INTO THE STORY TO EXPLAIN!

THANK YOU!
Jonathan,

It's about time someone told the truth around here.  Thank you for not being afraid to do that.  Your comments on Friday morning was right on.  I have been feeling very frustrated about this whole election thing.  Since when did the Presidency become a celebrety status?!  The media on television is lopsided in their views.  I have wathced debates and listened to the facts.  What's wrong with our country now is everyone has been use to things being surgar coated and handed to them.  What ever happened to working for a living and getting your own health insurance?  Yeh, I understand that hard times befall on all of us.  That's why I'm working 2 jobs.  And besides that, where is Obama going to get the money to just give people health insurance when the country is already in trillions of dollars in debt?  Is it fair that we honest hard working people in America have to pay for someone's health insurance by taxing our hard earned dollars?  Think about it,  the money has to come from somewhere.  Thank you for laying the trouth out on the line I was screaming and holloring like I do when the GAMECOCKS make a touchdown!!!! By the way,  I am sooooo glad that you moved to WCOS.  I had started listening to another country station. But I look forward to my hour drive to work every morning now!  Anyway, I am tired of the sugar coating and being nice because of being afraid to hurt someone's feelings.  But, the truth sometimes hurts and we all know what happens to the "Little Boy Who Cried Wolf".  It doesn't pay to not tell the truth.  Again, thank you for telling the truth.  WAY TO GO!!!

Please do not let negative opinions of others bother you so much.  I think you are doing a great job on morning WCOS. We all have our own opinions of this upcomimg elections, no matter what we agree with or not. Lets pray for our country and our leaders to make the right decisions for our wonderful country, The United States of America.  I listen to WCOS most of the day off and on.  I enjoy it very much. I didn't hear all the comments from the beginning the other morning r/t Ron Howard, I heard the last 5 minutes of your conversation.  One thing I have learned in my 63 years on this earth dearheart is as the quote goes is,"You can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all the people all time".  You are entitled as well as anyone else, your beliefs and opinions, without being put on the carpet. Everything is hard now for the most of us. People seem to want to start arguments about black and white things, that is a sad thing, we need to be there for each other and put a hand out for our neighbor.  I really don't think whoever is our new president, will help me, I know my husband (65) and I will have to work until we can't go anymore, as we always have.  Mr. Rush you take care and continue what you are doing, informing your listeners just as you are doing. May God bless you and all you are connected with.  I will continue to listen to you daily.

What do I want out of my morning radio station
I was upset Friday morning when you chose to disrespect an artist and his song.  In MY opinion you chose to use take your political views and subject everyone to them.  I enjoy Brad Paisleys song featuring Andy Griffth.  WCOS is a radio station, and I believe its PRIMARY FUNCTION is to play songs from artists for the public to hear.  Take a cue from Oprah, Jonathon.  Even though she has decided to support Obama, she does NOT use her show to talk politics.  It is okay for you to voice your opinion and your political views.  But I believe you dont have a right to decide what songs from country artists you will play based on your political views.  If you did not want that version played, before starting the morning show then you should have planned on playing the version with out Andy Griffth ahead of time.  Instead, you chose to allow the song to begun to play, and then stopped it based on your POLITICAL views. Are you aware of Brad Paisleys political views.  Does anyone know if he would appreciate a radio personality refusing to play a song of his based on that persons POLITICAL views.  Contact Brad Paisley and ask him what he thinks about what you did Friday morning.  You have a right to your opinions, but please try to campaign for McCain elsewhere than my morning radio show.  You have listeners who support both campaigns, respect ALL of us.  Unless WCOS has decided it does not want Obama supporters to listen.  Just a note, I am a supporter of McCain but on my way to work while listening to WCOS, I want to hear more music and less Jonathon Rush's political views.  I understand that you may not agree with what I have to say, and may not care about my views.  But ask us the radio listeners, what DO WE WANT from our radio show.  Are ALL listeners important to you, or just the ones who only agree with you.

OF COURSE ALL THE WCOS LISTNERS ARE IMPORTANT TO ME.  I SHOULD NOT HAVE MADE TUMBLEWEED STOP THAT SONG.  AND I KNEW IT IMMEDIATELY AND WE DID PLAY THE SONG A FEW MINUTES LATER.  I DO UNDERSTAND THAT MOST LISTENRS COME HERE FOR THEIR FAVORITE COUNTRY MUSIC.  SORRY I DID THAT TO THE SONG, AND I HOPE WE AGREE TO DISAGREE ON OTHER ISSUES, THAT IS THE PRIMARY REASON I LET THE CALLER MAKE SURE SHE HAD TIME TO COMPLETE HER THOUGHTS SO THAT ALL VIEWS HAVE AN OPPORTUNIYT TO AIR ON THE MORNING RUSH!  SO ALTHOUGH I MAY NOT AGRRE WITH ALL THE IRREGULARS (AND THAT IS WHY I LIKE THEM SOMUCH), ALL OF THEM KNOW THAT I DO NOT EDIT OR FORBID THEIR VIEWS FROM BEING ON THE AIR, IF NOTHING ELSE WE ALL AGREE THAT WE ALL NEED AN OPPORTUNIYT TO SHARE OUR THOUGHTS.

THANX FOR LISTENIN'

Political Freedom of Speech

Yeah, lets talk about freedom of speech.  Jonathan, based on your comments on the air Friday and Anitra's posted comment, how do you two define freedom of speech.  Anitra commented that when someone takes up for John McCain/Palin everyone all of a sudden gets angry.  She also praised your opinion  of refusal to play Brad Paisley's song on the air featuring Andy Griffith  simply because Andy Griffth, Ron Howard and Henry Winkler supports Barack Obama.  And speaking of angry you were outraged and shocked by this.  Freedom of speech is what it is.  So why not respect their freedom of choice.  I have news for you Mr Rush...This is the year 2008 not 1958.

Go  OBAMA/BIDEN  08!!!

WE ARE ALL HUMAN
I did not find Ron Howard 's comments distasteful.
Everyone is entiled to their own opinions,
Actually I agree with him, we have had 8 yrs of  bush, and look where we are.
Also I am all for helping my fellow man.
Who is down and out how many homeless vets do we have living on the street, homeless, who need help, they gave their all and get nothing in return.
Or the single mother who may have had to make a choice to leave an abusive spouse, and is now homeless, with out income.
Or a family who thru fire ,flood, or any other disaster.are without income  or a home. would you trun your back on them?
We need to unite everyone and help one another, no worry about the race creed, gender.
First and formost we are all
                                               HUMAN

Political Comments
We all have an opinion. Let's just say that I agree with your opinion of Obama. If there is someone who stops listening to your station because they do not agree, then they are very closed minded people. Is this not what our country is all about? So what if you happen to air your opinions? Is this not what radio and television are all about? You may have stepped on the line, even just over the edge, but at least you are honest.

I have been listening to you, not the station that has hired you, but YOU for over 20 years. I have grown up with you and your family and have enjoyed every minute. I changed to WCOS when I heard you one morning while flipping channels. I recognized your voice and I changed my country choice. I have to apologize for not WNOK, I just couldn't handle it any more. Glad to have you and your family back in my life and I hope you stay with WCOS.

Freedom of Speech
Hi Jonathan!!!

I just wanted to say thank you for your comments this morning on the Brad Paisley song!!!  All you ever hear about is Obama and when someone takes up for McCain/Palin everyone all of a sudden gets angry....why????  Can we not express who we would like for President????  Just like how all CHRISITANS are losing their voices....I guess all Repbulicans or just anyone in general not voiting for Obama will lose their voice!!!!

Thank you Jonathan!!!  Keep up the good work.  This is America...everyone is suppose to be granted Freedom of Speech but I guess that only works for certain people in the world!!!

Go McCain/Palin 08!!!

Mark 1 for Free Speech!
Thank you Jonathan Rush!!!  My brothers are in the military fighting for your freedom to say what you want using any method you wish!  I thank you for using this freedom to say your opinion!  There are too many people in the "mainstream media" that are saying their opinion of good things for one candidate, and mostly bad for another!  To listen to the radio you need to have an open mind to listen to things you may or may not like.
Thank you again!!!

JOBS and Taxes
IT a shame folks forget that it was Clinton who signed the NAFTA act into place. It was then that our jobs started going overseas because they thought it would help our economy and businesses as well. Then our elustrious Pelosi and her crew took over in '06 promosing to change things and they have done nothing since being in charge. The Dodd's, Franks, and others stated there was nothing wrong with the Fannie Mae's and when it hit rock bottom they wanted to lay blame elsewhere. We need to just clean house in Washington and start over with new faces. Then we have one of our Candidates wanting to tax my 401, and the income I make to share the wealth. This is why so many folks are fed up with our government and how it takes care of its own. They would rather send our money elsewhere to take care of the needy and homeless when we have children right here in our own back yards going without.

Mom of a Taylor Swift fan
Hey Jonathan,
I am trying to find a website/place that I can get an autograph picture of Taylor Swift for my 8 yr old daughter for Christmas.  My daughter LOVES Taylor and I want to be able to surpise and delight her with the picture. I have contacted one of her fan club that I can actually write to but no response. I am not into the MYSpace and therefor cannot get into that without creating a pro-file. I hope you can give me some place I can go to and attempt to get this for her. Thanks for taking the time to read. I love your show and listen faithfully everyday. I travel an hr to work and it really helps put me on the right MOOD ELEVATOR....I am sure my employees love that too!!!
 HAVE A SUPERFANTASTIC WEEK!!!

She is one of the most in demand artist of this decade, so I wish I had an answer for you.

YOU RUINED THE SHOW FOR ME!

I AM NOT SURE IF I COMMUNICATED MY POINT CLEARLY, AND I WILL NOT EDIT THESE COMMENTS BUT ONLY USE CAPS TO INSERT INFO THAT IS NEEDED FOR EVERYONE TO BE ABLE TO READ AND UNDERSTAND.  IF YOU HEARD MY COMMENTS ON THE AIR AND HAVE ANYTHING TO ADD, BE SURE A POST ITM AND I WILL ADD TO THIS POSTING.

How dare you waste my radio listening time ranting and raving about that comment.

I WAS QUOTING JAMES CARVELLE FROM A TV REPORT AFTER THE SECOND PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE.

First, at no point did you say the man specifically stated that BLACKS would riot in the streets!  Did you?  Did hE?

HE DID NOT, BUT HIS INFERENCE WAS IN FACT JUST THAT, GIVEN THAT THE RACIAL DIVIDE WAS THE TOPIC ON THE TV SHOW AND REFRESHED BY THE NEWS ARTICLE REFERENCING PREVIOUS RIOTS AFTER  SPORTING EVENTS.

Second, you are obviously an Obama supporter -

I AM NOT SURE WHERE YOU UNDERSTOOD MY POSTION THAT WAY, BUT MY POINT WAS NOT ABOUT EITHER CANIDIDATE OR WHO TO VOTE FOR, MY POSITION WAS OUTRAGE OVER THIS STATEMENT BEING MADE WITHOUT SOMEONE CALLING MR. CARVELLE OUT ON THE SPOT.  THE REST OF THE CAST JUST SHOOK THEIR HEADS AS IF THAT WAS INSIGHTFUL.

what gives you the right to attempt to stir up and start the racist war by continuing on and on about the subject.

MY POINT EXACTLY.  HOW IS IT THAT THE COMMENT COULD BE MADE AND EVEN IF THE REACTION WAS NOT IMMEDIATE, WHERE ARE THE BLACK LEADERS THAT SHOULD BE OFFENDED BY SUCH COMMENTS.

It apparently did not offend anyone but you which would lead one to believe you may have riotous intentions should Obama not win.

YOU APPARTENTLY ARE RIGHT.  I MUST BE MORE OFFENDED BY THE REMARK EVEN THOUGH I WAS NOT BORN PART OF THAT COMMUNITY.  BUT CAN I QUOTE A GREAT AMERCIAN "WE MAY HAVE COME OVER HERE ON DIFFERENT SHIPS, BUT WE ARE IN THE SAME BOAT NOW"  THESE COMMUNITESS BELONG TO ALL OF US, AND AS AMERCIANS THE STREETS ARE NOT WHERE THESE ISSUES SHOULD BE SETTLED.

remember the te guilty dog barks first!  I DON'T REMEBER THAT SAYING, AND I AM NOT SURE I UNDERTAND IT.

race or gender is for the idiots in Washington to REMOVE the names of the candidates and only leaves their views and what they stand for.  It has been proven - ON BOTH SIDES OF THE RACE - there are many people who are voting because he's black or because the other is white OR because one has a woman VP.  When asked on the streets, many people say they agree for the candidate when given the name, however when only given the views they agree with the views of the other candidate yet will vote because of race/gender.

HERE GAIN, YOU AND I COULD NOT AGREE MORE.  BOTH PARTIES SEEMS TO USE THE UNWILLINGNESS OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE TO ACTUALLY STUDY THEIR POSTIONS TO THE ADVANTAGE OF THE PARTY OF THIER AFFILIATION.  THAT IS SAD.

I used to listen to you on 104.7 and now I USED to listen to you on 97.5.  Thanks for ruining the stations morning show!

I AM NO LONGER ON WNOK, SO I CAN'T BE RUINING BOTH!  I TAKE FULL RESPONSISIBLY FOR NOT COMMUNICATION MY POSTION MORE CLEARLY, THAT MUST HAVE BEEN THE PROBLEM! THANKS FOR LISTENEING WHILE YOU DID, HOPE YOU HAVE VISITED TO SEE THAT I ACTUALLY POST ALL THE COMMENT SON THE SHOW!

Quaterback Hit By Ref

I know they saif on the news that the Ref did not intend to hit the Quarterback. Said his arms coimng up was a defensive move. I don't see it. it looks pretty clear that he lined himself up to make the hit and bringing his arms up allowed him to push the quarterback back. Ref's are suposed to be inpartial. he broke the rules there should be a punishment. In my opinion he should be fired. No I don't say this as an upset fan. I don't even like Carolina. But he should be held responsible for his actions.

Batesburg Woman who ran for President
Hi Jonathon,

I am not 100% sure, but I think the Lady from Batesburg that ran for President was Lucy Lockett...lol..That was a long time ago, and my memory is just not as good as it use to be!

Jordan
Jonathon,

It was great to meet you last night at the fair, and thank you for the Loyal Listener tickets look forward to the show.  My daughter Jordan enjoyed meeting you as well last night.  I have submitted an entry for the Rascal Flatts/Taylor Swift Tickets.  Just curious if are going to give addictional tickets away.  Again my daughter is a huge Taylor Swift fan, and I know she would be in ah if she got to see her in concert.

Economy Comments

Good Morning Jonathon,

I wanted to thank you for your encouraging words about the economy.  It really made sense, and I hope people will listen. Maybe you should run for President, and Tumbleweed could be Vice President!!!...Hmmmmm, sounds good to me! By the way my husband's IRA is with AIG , and I think  those Execs should get the boot...We could send them to Saluda County and force them to throw cow patties at each other....LOL...Better yet, make a rule that they have to catch them in their mouth!!!...OK, maybe I am being too cruel...Nahhhhh!!!

Take Care,
Frankie(Fan from Leesville)

I thought abuot runing for President, but I realized I coul dnever beat Ms. ____?????____  who was that woman from batesburg who ran for President every four years?  Somebody Help me remember!

Gamecocks loose in Lexington
This morning on my way to work I heard you talking about the Gamecocks that are on the loose in Lexington. The Law Office where I work is next-door to Lexington Baptist Church and the Gamecocks are currently camping out in our backyard. I like them! It is nice to come to work in the morning and have a little nature waiting for me!

Not really knowing what to do for them I have started feeding these Gamecocks bird seed (behind our building to keep them away from the road!).....please let me know if there is anything else I could be feeding them......sorry I am not a farmer - I have no idea what chickens eat!!!?

They love to scratch and eat, so throw anything on the ground, but not larger than a crouton.  And pray for them because you know how chickens (birds) like to cross the road!

Gone Country
Jonathan,
I have enjoyed having you on WCOS in the mornings!! I hope you are enjoying it too. Your growing up country flash backs put a smile on my face and give me a laugh before getting to work.  I am glad you have returned to your country roots and came to WCOS. Keep up the great job.

Good Comment!
I don't agree with all that jonathon Rush says but...I heard him this morning when that guy corrected him on the shotgun thing and I will say this...I love that someone can disagree with him or even insult him without him losing his temper, stooping to rude insults or getting all fired up with the people that are tuning him in every morning.
It's a breath of fresh air to hear a grown up address something without becoming a child.
Tumbleweed, your the man! Keep programing the good music and laugh always, your laugh is contagious and I love laughing with ya!

Cuss to More Service!
You won't believe this Jonathon! I bought a computer from #$@&^*(+^!@ in May '99. When I would try doing any thing on it even going on-line it would freeze up. Would call the store they would tell me to reboot so I kept doing that until July. Loaded all of it in my car and took it back the store.  When someone ask if they could help me, said yes I had the computer in the car. A young lady ask me what I wanted her to do?  I told her she could send it straight to hell or stuff it!  And I wanted my money back so I could go to a reputable place and get one that worked. They did get it out of the car and when I left it was working!!!
I have had no problems with them since. You just have to know how to talk to them.

Thanks for the message, be sure and give me a "heads up" if you ever come up here with a complaint!

Gun Control
You need to be smarter than the person you are making fun of or you just look stupid.  I listened to your political news this morning on my way to work.  I am not a fan of Joe Biden, but he certainly knows more about guns than you do.  Berretta has made one of the finest shotguns in the world for many years.  Do me a favor and don't try to defend my gun rights.  Leave it to people who willnot embarass us.

Note from JR - I did admit on air that I don't know much about guns, and ask for Morning Rush Irregulars to call and inform me.  I was told by a 10 year old that Beretta makes the best shotgun.  The only thing I know is that it is never good to threaten a Presidential Candidate with a GUN!   Don't worry the NRA will not be asking me to speak at an upcoming meeting!  Sorry I embarassed you, I will speak only of whips and chains in the future.

Announcing the time

I would appreciate having the time announced more often in the mornings.  Sometimes I'm in a rush and it would help if you provided the time between songs and between your commentary.

Thank you

I will make a note to do that!

Thanks,

JR

Pocket Books in the Road!!!
I heard Jonathon talking about the pocket book prank in the road deal, and of course it brought back a memory of mine..When I was about 16 or 17, I picked up my Grandad, and Step-Grandmother to take them to Church at Rehobeth United Methodist, which is close to the Traffic Circle...After I dropped them off at home, and was heading home myself, I spotted a pocket book in the road..I stopped to check it out..When I opened it, I got a surprise..It contained some kind of waste...I don't know if it was human, or animal, but believe me it did not take me but a second to throw it down, and get out of there...This was in Saluda County....I imagine there was someone hiding in the woods, that was just laughing their butts off...I should have known better since it just happened to be on Halloween Night!!...I have never forgot that, and I laugh about it myself now.

That is a great idea!  I never did that trick, but Oct. is coming so look out Forest Acres!

Welcome Jonathon
Hi Jonathon,

I have always listened to country music; however I must admit that I was a channel surfer between WCOS and the "other" station.  But since you have joined WCOS that is all I listen to on my way into work each morning from Elgin.

Welcome, we love you.

Also, by the way.  Remember on the phone that I told you there was no way to stop my Dawgs.  Well, GO DAWGS!!!!

Debbie F.

Thanks Debbie, We almost had your DAWGS!  But Mike Davis chocked up the ball on the goal line when he hit what was later identified as a "invisible fence"!
