Drew Brees signed a 5 year 100 million dollar contract last year. He also earns an estimated 7-9 million per year on endorsements from Vicks, Tide, Pepsi, Verizon, Nike, Advocare, Chase, and Wrangler. Bringing his yearly salary up to around 18 million. He's a big deal. So when he walked into to Del Mar Rendezvous restaurant in San Diego people got excited. He handed over his credit card to pay for the $74.00 bill. He added a $3 tip. Someone other than the server took a photo of the bill and tip and sent it into The Dirty. The same site that broke the Anthony Weiner scandal. Brees first responded to the outrage on twitter and then gave a press conference to address the scandal! As ESPN reported;
Brees did not appear deeply disturbed by the matter, smiling often while discussing it. He said he'll be happy if his takeout tip turns out to be the biggest controversy he has to discuss all season. He reiterated that he tips 20% plus for service at a table and a couple of dollars for all take out orders.
I don't recall tipping on food I walked into pick up. I might throw some change in the "college fund" jar at the counter, but if I walk into get a pizza or Chinese food or whatever I am not tipping 20%. Of course I'm not one of the most famous people in the world. If I was I wouldn't be schlepping takeout orders around. Every meal would be fancy shmancy! We'd be dressed in tux's and my butler Coleman (I don't care what his real name is, he will be Coleman in my mansion after the Trading Places butler) will serve me homemade delicacies. Yes if I was rich you would all hate me.
