Boy uses his 5th birthday to help others

Most kids want the hottest new toys for their birthdays, but not Tyler Sliz. For his fifth birthday, the Illinois boy asked for bedding, as in blankets, pillows, and sheets. He asked his party guests to bring bedding as a gift, so he could donate it toSleep in Heavenly Peace, an organization that builds, assembles and delivers beds to children in need.

Tyler first heard about Sleep in Heavenly Peace at his Church. He wanted to build beds but was told he was too young. He doesn't have any money to help but he remembered that people gave him money last year for his 4th birthday so he told his folks that whatever he got this year he wanted to donate to the charity. They told his relatives who spread the news to others. He even received donations from local politicians like State Rep Mary Edly-Allen.

Four generations of his family worked on a build day for the organization and ended up donating 125 beds!

This kid isn’t stopping here either. His next goal? To fill “my whole houseful” with bedding to donate,” Tyler says.
