While doing his shift as a Salvation Army bell ringer in Indianapolis,James Bond got an extra special donation. There among the crumpled bills and pocket change, someone left a gold coin in the red kettle.
But this gold coin isn’t just any coin. It’s a 1915 100 Corona Austrian gold coin, valued at $1,500! And a large donation like this is even more appreciated because Thanksgiving was so late this year and the Salvation Army’s red kettle campaign had less time to raise funds.
"This year has been a tough year. It really has been," explains Sam Hyde, a Salvation Army spokesman for Central Indiana. "So something like this is a huge jolt to our fundraising efforts."
Salvation Army officials thinks this person may have been inspired by the so-called “Coin Crusader” whom has dropped two rare gold coins into a Salvation Army red kettle in Broward County every year for the past 6 years!
